I think Jackson in the relief ruck role has been very effective and allowed Max to head back and take defensive marks. I'd keep him in.

What about Weid for Fritsch? He has played well in terms of defensive efforts and taking grabs but his goal kicking is off. Weid is a more reliable kick for goal but defensive pressure not his strong suit but i think we can mange with charlie and kozzie applying the front half pressure.

Great problems to have.

It's getting better, would really love to see Brown getting closer to footy action. Clearly the round 3-4 estimates were very optimistic for both him and Weid.

The whole secondary league is just crap really.

So true — even pre COVID it was second rate, with shorter season plus byes, but now it lets down the emerging and returning players big time.

Weid for Jackson?

We lose some resting ruck ascendancy but gain some goal kicking ability, of which Jackson appears to have none of at the moment.

Not saying we should replace Weid with Jackson but unsure if we can fit another tall in.

Haven’t been able to see the Saints game yet,  but by several accounts Jackson’s run in the ruck was very important in turning the tide around.

I'd like Weid for TMac. It doesn't mean Tmac is out. He can rotate with Brayshaw on the wing and Brayshaw can swap wing / inside mid. It would mean maybe Sparrow or someone out - not that he deserves it. Jackson and the Weid worked well together last year before Jackson went down. We can also see if TMac works on the wing or not. Jackson will be something special when he starts putting it together. Not sure when that will be but it's not too far off.

I’m opening myself right up here but I reckon the Weid might struggle to get a game in front of TMac. Jackson has been invaluable as second ruck and I can’t see us dropping him for Sam.

I’m still not totally sold on Weideman to be frank. Benny Brown would already be in front of him in terms of preference. Further, what happens if Majak starts smashing the door down?  Sam needs to kick consecutive bag fulls in the twos before even being considered.

In terms of depth forwards, we are in a great position. We just have to get the best of them all together on the park.

Not even a like for like player.

Fritta is a medium with many skills not kicking ATM and Sam is one dimensional forward marker who can ruck a bit. That's why I like LJ instead as he is more versatile and will learn quickly .

As well as Fritsch LJ instead of Weid.

Just said on the news that he'll be back in full training from tomorrow and hopes to get some VFL minutes if not this weekend then next.

I agree they are not like for like

The trade-off is Weid offers more reliable goal kicking v the defensive effort Fritsch brings (which he wasn’t bringing last year btw).

I like Fritsch but his goal kicking is off. We have kossie and Spargo to bring the forward pressure. He’s in the team to kick goals and he’s not doing it at the moment.

If Fritsch starts to kick straight then he stays in for mine. But if he doesn’t he’ll be dropped and will have to go back to Casey to work on his technique and re-build his confidence.

I believe Ben is back in full training tomorrow?

Yep, huge

Exciting news.

I can;t wait to see BB play for us but i hope the club err on the side of caution with his rehab and recovery. Make sure he is 100% right before putting him in the side. TMac has stepped into the breach in his absence (never thought i'd write that) and we've won our games so no need to rush him back.

You beauty!

Brown and T Mac plus Fristch and smalls will be a hell of a fwd line

Agree with this, and who is to say that Weideman, when ready is not going to strip a fitter, angrier, more confident, indomitable player?

Maybe they'll create some just for Dangerfield to play in ?.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
