I feel like the mood of this thread is somewhat an impact of the club training in Timbuktoo... Now MFCSS is running rampant.

So a pandemic of highly contagious panic has now set in? The faith healers have appeared. It will be a relief when the vaccine is released.

Gawn was just interviewed on 3AW and he didn’t think the Brown injury was anything serious.

Also said Viney should play one of the pre season games.

I wouldn’t get too excited as Gawn strikes as me as a half glass full guy.

Definitely agree with this assessment, Gawn's a great ambassador for the club but quite often falls into the "everything's hunky dory" side of things.

I don't really blame some posters for thinking the sky's falling, we've been burnt a couple of times before with recruits looking the good and then having injuries hold them back. It was widely reported during the pre-trade period that Burgess and the club gave Brown a very detailed once over so at the end of the day we've got to back them to know how to manage his knee issues and hopefully it is something that will allow him to play most of the year (obviously including bagging 6 in the GF!).

Let's just wait and see,  hopefully it might be a better outcome than we expected Ds 56. Have to think positive,

Templeton was a CHForward more than a FFwd. However, most games, he starred in both positions as he was a great wanderer and moving target for the Doggies, all game. And boy, could he clunk them all around the forward line, no distance too difficult with his kicking for goal.

What was wrong with Templeton? Kicked 55 odd goals in 1984 including two bags of 8.

We’d be doing cartwheels these days if someone at the club managed this.

he said IF ben brown is injured for the next month or so, it will change where he's training as a wing or as a forward

it is truly beyond me why they would have tmac training on the wing. it wont work.

Brown has played 22 games a season for 5 consecutive seasons until 2020. His injury history includes nothing chronic or serious.

Let's see what the doctor's say on thursday.

No way - too sensible. I reckon we should panic, certainly well before we know the facts.

After all, this is how the masses on the planet seem to operate these days.

Not sure if T Mac on the wing will work or not, but maybe trying him on the wing has to do with endurance. He looks a lot leaner. Heard on radio with less rotations this season you will need blokes on the wings that can run all day and it’s one position you might have to leave out there longer.

It doesn't matter, your love child Fraser Rosman can take Browns' spot.

Uncalled for I was asking  serious question !

Not sure whether it has been mentioned already, but the one positive is apparently BB is not in any kind of pain and the concern is more  just in the swelling itself i.e. they dont want it to develop into something more significant.

Having some degenerative conditions myself I can tell you that there is always pain and stiffness (and my Osteoarthirits is so small that its not even detectable on x-ray or MRI).

No doubt he would have had scans on his knee following the original injury and MFC would have definitely known about any structural changes to the knee (i.e. osteoarthritis) in the medical.

My gut feel is its something probably not so sinister like scar tissue (formed as a result of the injury) in the ligament / tendon creating some inflammation and swelling in the joint as it rubs some of the boney structures. Hopefully an arthroscopy can clean it up and will allow the effected tissue to heal properly. I'm expecting ~ 3 month layoff but i don't think we can write off his career just yet.

Frankly this club gives me no confidence again after Browns injury.  It smacks of poor due diligence prior to signing him up.  I for one will not expect anymore from this club.  I will see after first 7 rounds where we sit, however cannot trust them at all after nearly 60 years of mediocrity.

We seem to have some experts on the amount of bandaging that disqualifies a player from training who were mysteriously silent on that subject before now.   Let's see what happens and hope for the best.

Most bandaging is PREVENTATIVE only. Approx 70% — ie not post injury taping. Especially ankles and shoulders. So if you rested all taped plates you’d be resting 70% healthy and fit players.

god some ppl need to grow up. It’s SWELLING he doesn’t need a damn reco... ALL teams cop injuries, this is just insanity. He will be fine and has been dominating all PS with the swelling g club just want to be sure they are handling correctly..

Just ignore them, they don’t understand that these days ALL clubs follow SAME medical testing protocols set by independent medical experts and followed by club medicos. BB is FINE, he’s not got any pain and will likely have swelling for most of his life due to scar-tissue that’s developed where his original knock was. Club being SUPER cautious only. If advice is rest he will rest of it’s time get a scrape he will have a scrape. Just ignore the doomsday-mania crowd, it’s hard I know but having fun with it is fine, these other sillies calling for sackings and saying club lacked diligence cus guy has swelling on a less than 12mth old injury is absurd!!!

Wonder if it is a British or South African swelling ?

2018? When he played full forward  and kicked 50 plus goals ?

Back around Round 3 or 4 would be my guess.

Not surprising, it was never going to be nothing. Interesting that it is cartilage damage - whether it is a rip in the cartilage or scar tissue hard to say, but these things are generally repairable.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
