50 odd goals AND he missed the first 4 weeks of the season from memory. Tmac was a genuine forward force in 2018.

correct.

he kicked 76 goals and only 26 behinds between the 2nd half of 2017 and the 2018 season.

76 from ~28 games is Coleman form.  what happened?!?

Geez this is sobering.

Take a look at that whole forward line , interchange and emergency.

Im not have a crack at you, but if this is the best we have to offer for a few weeks we are in a world of hurt.

Interesting that  today's Qld covid case is within the 28 day ban imposed by WA.

Will the Eagles V GCS game go ahead in Perth... (only Round1)

I do wonder how we can be rebuilding since 2015 (after 2 failed rebuilds) and still have so many holes in our list...

Good point.

They could move to the game to Adelaide Oval on Sunday week?

Surely the media, big pharma and government haven't been lying to us?   ?

The vaccine does nothing. You can still catch covid and still pass it on. Might make virus mutate into another strain. Nobody really knows.

Not really community transmission, just in a hospital setting.

Nah they beat us when we had finals on the line. They are a better team.

And longmuir can coach for sure. Albeit short period on which to judge

We need a T Mac miracle if we are going to salvage the first part of our season. In the two practice matches he has shown nothing to suggest that such a miracle will be forthcoming but we've lived in hope rather than expectation for so many of the last 50 years...

Maybe they should play him out of the square instead of up on the wing? Just a thought

True that forward line is not much better than VFL standard

Its not so bad when you consider Petracca and Gawn will roll through there ....  but yes we do need BBB, Weid and Melk back.

Half the team played in 2018 finals.

May Lever Jackson Pickett Tomlinson and Langdon are some of the additions. So counting them and 2/3 of the team you could argue all get a game in a finals side. Add Viney Melksham Brown and Weiderman. It's not anywhere near as bad a squad as it seems. Just a bit too much inexperience for comfort. But on paper it's still solid. Or it *should* be solid.

Put a line through Darcy Tucker of Freo. Hurt himself playing WAFL practice match today.

Pretty interesting thread on the Freo BF board. Seems were both looking at same issues with our teams heading into round 1, namely key forwards/forward line.

Maxy SHOULD dominate in the ruck then it's gonna come down to a battle of the midfields I think.

I just read the first post on the link, if that’s how Freo line up and we lose Choco can coach from round two onwards

I know it’s VFL, but if Majak has booted 4 goals and dominated the ruck, we may just have a rd 1 bolter on our hands. In all likelihood they’ll select Jackson and TMac, but the latter does not cut it as a forward. Jackson took some nice grabs against the Doggies, but was playing a long way from goal. I would really like a genuine tall at FF, just to provide a contest. I’m not sure the TMAC or Jackson can offer that. It’s a big game this. We need a good start to the year as the first month is a challenge. I’d be rolling the dice on Majak

Looking at their forward line, ill be positive and predict we shall sit atop the afl ladder for the first time in 16 years?  7 goals to 3.

Totally agree, I feel like one of the issues is we’ve confused his role. Play him out of the square, look for the lead not just plonk it on his head.

I don’t think our coaches do the players any favours sometimes, play him as our FF.

You’d imagine they will have to ply Fyfe forward for a large part of the game

Anyone aware if team announcements are returning to the usual time of 6:25pm Thursday night this season? Covid or not, wasn’t a fan of waiting until the night before a game last season for the team to be listed.

In my view Maxy dominating in the ruck makes F'all difference to the clearances so what is it you like?

Not ruthless enough at each seasons end imho.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
