Something a big personality like Williams does is he takes a lot of heat and media attention off players and coaches.  The media love him and he’s happy to give the big, flamboyant interviews.  Why interview Goodwin, when you can get great quotes and soundbites from Chico..?

It’s similar to when Roos was at the helm.  We got a very easy run with the media because Roos was held in such high regard.

Steven May has commented on the first of Ralph's posts, asking for Michael Barlow's thoughts.

Why does it matter what Barlow thinks?

We all know what Choco can do.

Can someone explain why everyone is so excited. Do any of you actually know what he brings?

I’m not sure he did all that much for the likes of Dusty. Maybe provided another sounding board as a mentor more than coaching.

To me it’s this:

“For me to look at people like Kane Lambert, Jason Castagna, Dan Butler and Ivan Soldo, I just smile.”

Combined with the skills of the young Giants. They were so sharp with their hands and kicking (and attitude). Goody and the assistants can come up with a game plan. Skills is what Choco can train with the best of them. And skills are what separates the best teams.

Which is fine unless he’s leaking info or clashing with the coach. The reality is though if things go bad we’re stuffed anyway, so why not go for it!

First 3 lines of the article are like porn for a Demon supporter

TURNING around Melbourne's problematic kicking will be the first priority for new Demons head of development Mark 'Choco' Williams.

The Port Adelaide premiership coach has vowed to bring back an "old-school" mentality at the Demons next year in what shapes as a crucial year after two failed seasons under Simon Goodwin.

And he wants to help emerging gun Christian Petracca emulate the feats of his former pupil Dustin Martin.

Guess who’s back? Dees land flag coach to fast track youngsters

Barlow plays at Werribee under Williams.

Not wrong..

Christian is fine. I'd prefer he focused on helping the likes of Gus and Oliver emulate Petracca.

Is his nickname still Choco and is that in anyway referencing his complexion?

Just a straight answer here please. I don't want to derail the bloody thread..

If it was I wouldn't use it around here Steve.

He’s “hard work” according to a mate in the inner sanctum at Tigerland, but maybe that’s what we need.

I’m normally a glass half full sort of guy, so obviously I have no place to be on demonland!

I know we've been in dire straits, but I didn't expect to lose Mahoney for nothing and get Chocs for free.

Hats off

We have made a lot of great changes in the offseason, Ben Brown, Adem Yze, Brad Green, some nice delistings...etc

However I think Mark's addition is the best one yet.

Late to the party, but this is an excellent pick up. Crikey, maybe we'll do a Richmond after all, and swamp the coach in a mire of talent so thick, even he can't feck it up

Brad Green doesn't excite me one bit.

The rest do.

“I am trying to improve everyone, whether it’s the oldest to the youngest players with the mindset of trying to be great and let’s go as far as we can,” Williams told reporters.

“That means we are searching and hunting for premierships, there is no doubt about that. We are not just trying to improve, we want to be great.”

Mark Williams is a worthy   appointment  and well done  Gary Pert for selecting him and now as he has said  Mark is going to prove  his worth to  our great club.    I  bloody believe him and back him in.

Music to my ears.

None of this try to make the 8 and win a final mediocrity.

Top 4 and a crack at the flag has to be the aim.

i smell something rotten here

too many posters being too positive on this appointment

what has demonland become?

He believes in himself, he believes he should be given the chance to prove himself, he believes he will prove himself to the club for giving him the chance. He believes a club and the players should always aim for the top and not settle for anything less.

I like his confidence.

Absolutely brilliant, we've been crying out for someone like Choco for years. Well done MFC, on the move.

Huge

Total surprise but very happy with this. He has his quirks for sure  but will be a nice counterpoint to Goodwin’s demeanour and brings in more experience that is critical given the downsized coaching structure.

Mark Williams has a background in teaching and in footy.

A footy teacher is always what we need. I have heard glowing reports on his manner with players and I have seen up close his understanding of our great game and what it means to players and supporters.

A wise choice. I look forward to watching his pupils improve and excel.

Absolute friggen masterstroke by the Dees. In one day remove the last remnants of the dark years in Mahoney and bring in a known winner in Chocco Williams, i haven't been this excited in years.

We are going all out it seems, hell bent on a flag(s) lots of knowledge, wisdom and Discipline in Chocco he looks very energized and appreciative of the opportunity to pass on his learnings in the game.

Congratulations to the Board for handling it with such distinction.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
