You know a club is far from being solid when the reshuffling, pushing out the door and sackings continue for consecutive years.

Two years gone and how many names from coaches through to FD personnel have gone?

Would love to see a list.

We're a strange club.

Basically all on Goodwin this year and if we fail to make the 8, we'll start seeing players want to leave. You can bank it.

After a decade of failed rebuilds resulting in an AFL intervention in which we were basically given Paul Roos and Peter Jackson on  platter, we finally get a rebuild right and now we find ourselves here. An supremely talented but under-performing list with a dysfunctional coaching group and FD which is in no way stabilizing and in my view is having a much greater impact on our playing group then many would like to think.

Never ceases to amaze. Gone from die hard fan to interested observer. Almost as if I'm watching an Attenborough doco at times.

'Jimmy' me lad. The job was never done, it was half a....rebuild.

Roos taking the money and running without getting his man.

Jackson in some too and fro with the Prez, not able to complete his job.

It was never finished.

The interesting thing here is going to be a clash of philosophies.

Josh likes to get a deal done and looks for a win/win.

Dodo...wan't win at all cost and couldn't careless about the other party.

Will it work, who's will will win in the end?

Maybe thats why they're bringing him across?

I think Dodo must have pix...he might win.

Can't see any other reason he has kept his job.

They've always managed to have such dysfunctional coaching and administration they've never really had time to evaluate and change the list management. We've been as good as any club at getting stuck in the eternal rebuild. Essendon have been stuck in the eternal house renovation. Dodoro's been either tearing down or plastering the same backyard extension and he's always been so busy doing it for 5 different coaches now they've never stopped to check his credentials.

You'd have to say Mahoney's been a great servant of the club.  Getting 13 years from any employee is fantastic.

But it's also a long time.

I don't know how anyone could be annoyed with the MFC or Mahoney.  It's been a good union.

Yup.  Its the right time to part ways.

Wish him all the best.

Sad to see Mahoney go but it seemed like it was coming. He'll be a good fit for Essendon provided he is given the authority to do his work. Good luck to him.

It was probably coming after he missed the CEO position.

Then the sideways/backwards move was the last straw.

Interesting though that he wasn't their first choice.

Not arguing with your feelings or attitude - you are definitely entitled to them but the Toiges had a similar clean out back in 2016 from memory.  Not that it did them any good ?

I’m sorry to see him go. Met him a few times at events and he always gave the time of day and was forthright with his answers. I was sat beside him at a lunch once and asked him why he stayed at the Dees given we were such a basket case (about 5 years ago if i think). He gave a wry smile and said the job satisfaction would be greatest helping a struggling club improve. I always liked him after that.

That said 13 years is a good run and maybe a change is for the best. I wish him well at the bombers. I think he’ll need it.

No surprise. Especially with the restructuring

13 years of service is plenty. It’s been a rollercoaster ride.

Thanks and good luck.

Thanks for what. What did he do that he was not well paid for. Rather thank a property steward than a paid official who achieved nothing special.

Lamb does the pick trading.

I'm a fan of Mahoney and prefer him to Richo in the role, but I get that Pert wants him out since they went for the same job.

Just a natural progression for Mahoney. Missing CEO role alsways meant he would leave for other opportunities.

Good for both him and Pert. Pert now can get someone he may or may not prefer and a good chance for the club to refresh.

Best wishes to him. Done as much as he could with us, and he can't go on the ground and kick the ball. Up to Goodwin and the players now.

Not unexpected, as I said on the rumour only thread, fairly well known he'd applied for the Essendon position and who could blame him when the position was vacant and our FD was under review.

As others have said 13 years is a long time and despite being maligned on here by posters (many of whom also question Taylor) I think he has performed well in his roll.

Thanks for your service Josh

13 years at the club is a decent effort, but really the assistant coach and then footy ops manager - training in admin - don’t have much of a legacy.

It’s 7 years as an executive. 5 that were very positive, 2 that weren’t so much. Time will tell if he’s laid the platform for future success or if 2018 was the pinnacle.

The footy GM role really should be as highly regarded as the coach. If Mahoney was the coach from 14-20 you’d say overall he’s done a decent job in tricky circumstances but hasn’t excelled.

So true on Roos.

Don't agree.

He couldnt get his man  (Dew) because the swans rightfully enforced their contractual rightds - not Roos fault, nor Dew's.

Roos stopped the bleeding and gave us some self respect. Set it up beautifully for Goodwin.

Who so far has wasted that chance big time. Think Final round 2017, 2018 prelim car crash, 2019, Cairns 2020.

I wonder if they had to negotiate Josh's salary? ?

Not what the article says exactly.  The Bombers spoke with Trigg and Wayne Campbell but they "...were'nt offered the job..."

You suggest they were and knocked it back.

Ok so when I told the membership department (after the Freo loss) that I am cancelling my auto-renew and only signing on for next year if there were some decent changes made in the coaching space and ideally Mahoney gone as well, I didn't actually think that would occur.

Looks like I'm calling tomorrow and signing up for 2021 ?

3 years was not enough time to finish what he started. He should have stayed for 5.

And he lumbered us with Goodwin.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 18 vs Essendon

It’s game day and the Demons face a massive test which may determine whether they have what it takes to play finals this season. The task has been made all the more difficult without their Premiership Captain Max Gawn.

    GIANT HEADACHE by Whispering Jack

The crack in the captain’s ankle might be very small but the repercussions of the injury are enormous. The aftershock of the news that Max Gawn will sit on the sidelines for the next two or three weeks has provided Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin with a giant headache, not unlike the one he faced after the Kings Birthday when another Demon superstar Christian Petracca suffered his season-ending injury. That headache is magnified by the fact that Goodwin is facing a month of tough encounters a

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.
