Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jackson isn't going anywhere in the short term. like Jesse he'll get chased every single off season by both W.A clubs but so will Rivers and Kozzie. any half decent interstate player is going to deal with that most of their career.

Everything i've heard about LJ is he's incredibly happy at the club, excited for the future and the club thinks we've got ourselves an incredible talent.

I personally think LJ's first 4-5 years are going to be mostly flashes of brilliance with a gradual build in strength, fitness and consistency before absolutely exploding onto the scene and ripping a season apart. gotta keep expectations in check for the young man but he does look the goods

He seemed really stoked with his young player of the year award at the b&f as well. Definitely didn’t give the impression he was unhappy.

Don't get caught up with how and what the original post, and the following responses from that poster, had to say about LJ.  It was classic "click bait", knowing that it would cause responses.

All of it was based on nothing other than an opinion, written as though it's based on insider knowledge.

100% this. I was down at EFFC last week and spoke with someone who has stayed in contact with LJ. He’s apparently very happy at the club and has no intention of returning home. People like to stir the pot and create false rumours to make themselves feel important.

Took it in all his stride this year did Jacko. I remember an interview with Sen i think after his RS nomination? And Dwayne asked how he has settled in with the hub etc. Jackson response was something along the lines of "loved every minute of it so far and the boys are like brothers to me". Knew then he was in it for the long haul.

Would be shattering to lose LJ.    He a Jurrah-Schwarz-Jakovich level talent.

Next season cant come fast enough.

Jurrah is the most freakish footballer I have ever seen.  Jakovich was the definition of mercurial, and Schwartz was just a bloody good footballer that we never saw close to the best of (which is a scary thought).

The three players you mentioned have skill sets that I just don't think Jackson should be mentioned in the same breath as.

If you are looking for the best comparison, then try Grundy (Collingwood), but I think LJ might have a couple of extra things in his arsenal than Brodie, which is what makes LJ a super exciting prospect.

Watch Schwarz in 94, he was at his best then

in my 45+ years of tough Demon love, Schwarz in '94 was the only MFC player (including the likes of Flower, Lyon, Neitz etc) that I thought could be so much better than anyone else that he could drag our battling club to multiple premierships - like Carey did for North a few years later. As per Dusty, you don't often win premierships without these sorts of players.

Not sure CP on his own can be this player, but if LJ could be something near the Ox at his peak, the two of them could get us there by the time CP is the age that Dusty hit his peak.

It will be interesting to see when/who the next forward will be that just changes games week after week after...  Buddy is the most recent one, who will be next?  I don't think that's what we will see Jackson do.

I look at someone like Goodes that I wonder if LJ can mould some of his game around, with the best bits of Grundy thrown in.

Will be fascinating (and hopefully rewarding) viewing of LJs career with us over the next decade to see what he will become.  I'm not buying in to the talk of him being "flighty" and possibly looking at escaping back to WA at any possible chance.  He'll be a Demon for a long time.

Not a rumour but a thought based on the spin I heard from Buckley this morning. They are clearing the deck to look after their existing players but also looking at next year and thereafter at RFA's and out of contract players and going hard. We have 2 that fit that bill, the question is would you trust the Pies to honour that contract? expect other clubs to come really hard at our players next year if they haven't signed extensions

They will be coming hard after Merrett and Petracca.

GWS have set the precedent with the strategy to match and force a trade.  Ess definitely will and I would hope we would as well.

However, because GWS matched there are moves afoot to make changes to the FA rules so the Cameron 'problem' doesn't happen again.  No idea what that means clubs for matching rules.

It would be our luck that as our players become FA's, if they go we get a mid or late 1st round comp pick for them.  We had better win a flag soon...

Never saw close to the best of?

I saw him kick 9 goals straight at the SCG. I'd say that was close to his best.

Wasn't looking at a player comparison,  was just talking talent wise.  Of course LJ isnt a natural forward like those other 3 guys.

LJ blows Grundy out of the water on talent and ability.  Grundy is the most overrated player in the comp imho.. doesn't have any matchwinning ability or X factor. In fact hes bloody boring, unlike LJ who will have people paying to come watch him.

He was 22 and had played just on 50 games, then we didn't get to see him anywhere near back to form until he was 27. 170 marks, 60 goals in a season, there's a chance he could've gone to the Carey level of 200 marks, 80+ goals, just dominating the comp. But even if he didn't and '94 was his best it's such a shame we never got to see more of it.

Hopefully they expand restricted free agency down to 6 years, maybe even 5 and eventually 4. Then guys who have done 7, 8 or even 9 like Cameron become unrestricted.

Yes it means we'll have a fight on our hands for guys like Petracca and possibly Clarry but we'll also be able to sign some experience and target the guys we do need and make a play at getting them for nothing. Having to trade for Ben Brown who's done 7 years service and isn't even wanted by his own club, it's a stupid and outdated system.

Goodes might be the best comparison. Never a true key forward. Too valuable to end up in the ruck long term - although LJ has a bit more height and leap. He broke out as a ruck then turned in to a superstar mid who could go forward. LJ probably ends up as a ruck but what's the best path to get him there?

It's part of the reason I'm becoming more and more interested with the idea of giving LJ stints on the wing to get him involved in the game and around the ball more often. If we want to play 2 key forwards it will be hard to get him in the play. The wing could be the best solution.

The info wasn't that he was going, personally I think he's more likely to stay, it was more that it's not a lock just yet. The thing in our favour is that Yze is a fantastic communicator and relates really well to players from what I've heard, he's already working with a couple of them specifically, so I think his influence could make a big difference to our group.

And if we can perform consistently as a team for once in many many seasons that will help to. I cant remember a more important or critical season for our club.

Very happy to be reading this about Yze. Seems there's a communication problem at the team level he could potentially solve. Like a marriage, everyone's gotta buy in for it to work, coaches and players.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
