Surely Mason Wood gets another go somewhere.

I think Lewis Jetta would be a good fit for us.

The SFL is a bit of both plus the old Eastern Churches league...

We couldn’t get Tom Phillips across but I wonder whether we would be interested in his brother Ed who has just been delisted by St Kilda.

Have only seen glimpses of him but has looked okay at times.

Maybe a rookie spot? Start him of at Casey on a wing and see if he’s good enough?

Federal League: No room for the faint hearted.

I played in the SFL, first game was out at Brooklyn... the biggest all in brawl I’ve ever seen, it was terrifying.

When I look through the delisted players , if I had to choose one player to pickup it would be Ryley Stoddart.  He has just turned 21 and had 3 years in the Swans system.  I remember him in the 2017 championships for Vic Metro.  He plays wing/half back , is a left footer and had real pace. Good skills. I think he got a few injury setbacks at the Swans and couldn’t quite crack it. Played the 6 games in 2018-19.
Given his style is what we need (I’d like to add 3-4 quick skilled players to our list) , he’s worth a DFA or likely a rookie pick.

if i asked who would u prefer as a rookie jay lockhart or derek eggmolesse-smith who would u all pick

Lockhart, because I can't pronounce the other blokes name.

Lockhart. Hard at the footy.  Has the skills. Just needs the composure and we’ll have a very very good BP

I wonder if being a 2 time premiership player will make us look at Jetta? He can play wing. We missed out on Isaac Smith he would be the next best thing for a year or 2.

Jetta has lost the hunger, 2 flags ten years in the system, no more he can achieve.

Any interest in Oscar McDonald delisted by Melbourne - could be handy KPD depth?

Binman would be interested.

Mitch Cleary on AFL website has listed a full team of delisted free agents and given a walk through on most of the players.  Oscar is one of the more likely to get picked up. Though it’s likely most won’t get recycled and will roll back through state league or suburban footy or retire.  I think the Dees will go with a list of 43 and keep a rookie spot available for the summer training group SSP Opportunity.

The Cleary article indicates that Toby Bedford is our only uncontracted player and that a few others who the club has yet to confirm, have in fact signed new contracts.

i'm very confused with their thinking re bedford and chandler? do we know if chandler has been training/developing forward or back i hear mixed reports because if theyre both forwards why are we recontracting the one who didnt play a game and not the one who did or alternatively why did one play games if he isnt as worthy of a list spot going forward as the one who didnt.

it would make sense that Chandler is playing back with Hore, KK, nietschke injured this year long term and jetta seemingly falling off a cliff. we didnt have any real depth bar lockhart. would explain the harmes decision too a bit

Believe Chandler was/has been played back. I think in one the hub videos Egan described him as a 'Rory Laird' type.

Happy that Chandler has been retained. I think he will might be ok.

I can't see Bedford making it though so if he was delisted I would say fair enough.

As Pulp says, Chandler did preseason with the backline but obv didn't play a lot of footy. He was also injured during a fair stretch of the 2020 preseason.

Shane Savage just delisted. I’d take him ahead of a few on our list. Wouldn’t have bothered to sign up some of the depth players we kept on. Ah well!

30 years old at the start of next season. Reckon you’d want to be taking a fairly special player at 30 years of age, which he is not.

Here i am thinking we would be ruthless with our list changes at the end of the year.

Guess I was wrong.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.
