Has Jackson signed an extension?

When I saw the tweet and his photo I was hoping that that was what the article was about.

This is perhaps one of our most important re-signings. We need to lock him in.

He will get some of the best development for ruck duties Max will teach him his craft that is a great start.

He looks a natural however l am sure he will get a better development than some of our early picks   eg. Like Jack Watts .

100%

Please don't take my next comment as carte blanche to devolve into a political debate but the COVID situation in Victoria & playing virtually the whole season in Queensland hasn't helped in making Melbourne, the city, his home.

If he gets to go back to Perth over the off-season and experiences the freedoms back home, coupled with his current freedoms in QLD and then has to come back to a semi-lockeddown Melbourne, it won't be to our benefit.

This isn't the clubs fault just bad timing.

If there is one thing we've done well over my time following the MFC, it's developing ruckmen.
Jim Stynes (Brownlow, 2 x All Australians, 4 x BnF)
Jeff White (1 x All Australian, 1 x BnF)
Mark Jamar (1x All Australian)
Max Gawn (4 x All Australian, 2 x BnF)

Not to mention Darren Jolly, Troy Simmonds and Stef Martin.
That's 30 years of consistently elite performances - I'd say that'd be better than any team in the league.

I had a little chuckle at the surprise headline revealing that development is key for a teenage key forward/ruck. While all those other young ruckmen are focusing on salmon farming or bocce.

The purpose of the article is of course to remid us that the kid exists, so job done.  I wonder how the 'Dogga' nickname came in? I like it because right from his first game, with the floppy hair and the mad enthusiasm and clearly needing to grow into his own body, I was comparing him to some kind of St Bernard puppy. ?

LJ is our most exciting prospect for many years, and that includes Tracc and Clarrie.  We must lock him away on a 5 year deal asap.

On the flip side, due to his junior basketball career he's already traveled a heap with sport, spent time overseas etc, so possibly that would help him be more acclimatised to being away from home for his career.

That's what I'm telling myself anyways...

On the plus side he didn't get to experience a freezing cold winter this year so best to lock him in now before he gets a taste next year.

Let us hope that by the time pre-season starts and he's back in Melbourne that Melbourne is no longer under these insane lockdown measures. Not just for his sake, but for the sake of all of us living here who are climbing the walls, and  going broke.

Things may change over time, but when I spoke to him a couple of days after being drafted, he indicated that he'd spent plenty of time in Melbourne before and was pleased to be coming over. Said he had travelled many times with elite junior squads in more than 1 sport. Also mentioned the fit with MFC needing a flexible tall was attractive

It is difficult to predict with certainty but a near certainty he will leave if we do not have success over the next two years. The attraction of a big WA offer with a successful Club, laid back lifestyle, great facilities is hard to compete with for a Club like Melbourne. I think we need to be helping these type of recruits access top Universities and other things a big city like Melbourne offers. Also meeting a local girl would help. Not you though Pollyanna.

I really hope we settle him into one position for a while rather than expecting him to learn ruck work, playing as a key forward and who knows what else all at once.

Nic Nat will be 31 at the end of 2021 which would be the end of LJ's present contract.

If you were LJ's manager what would you be advising him?

The only thing preventing him going "home" would be our demand for a top 4 draft pick which WCE would have to trade for.

I would be trying for a one year extension for LJ in the hope that he develops a like for the place (ie Melbourne). Two years may be just that little too far.

The Eagles don't stay down for long, they do have an aging list, we need to go past them in 2021.  The other side of playing for the Eagles the $$$ you can make outside of footy is a lot more than what he would make playing for Melbourne

For his development he needs to work with those setting the top standard at the club, people like Gawn, viney Trac seem to standout in clicking what it takes to be successful consistently in preparation and effort on the field (There are likely more but thats what standouts  from the outside), help build that high demand culture of success in everything.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
