Why do I get the feeling he'll be our next coach?

It is a Ratten to St. Kilda under Richardson scenario.  If team doesn't perform, then Goodwin goes and Yze fills the void.

Ahh yes, that's what it is

Watching the last two minutes of Melbourne v North highlights on the AFL website with the Yze news showcasing "Yze and Neitz blitz." brought a tear to my eye. For a number of reasons:

A reminder of how good Yze and Neitz were.

How many good players we had in the team at the time. (Why didn't we win a flag ?)

Seeing Troy Broadbridge holding the ball aloft when the siren sounded. RIP Troy.

Great news. The Albanian cheer squad will be back in force at the MCG. (We hope. If restrictions allow.?)

This is something I’ve been advocating for a couple of years now, so it pleases me greatly.

He’ll be head coach in 2022.

Well Chook you were spot on, congratulations for filling us all with some hope on the future direction of our beloved Club.

MFC are really getting their "Ducks" lined up going into 2021, just a few more signatures to ease the anxiety, but this has really lifted my expectations going forward.

Thanks Adem for coming home with your great skill set and thanks MFC for recognising a great signing.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When it was set in concrete that he was signed , l was over the moon ....Fantastic news  for sure IMV.

Hi all. Been a while.

Yze coming home

Great stuff from you too Chook

Long sleeves will be the new fashion de rigueur at MFC next year. ?

The potential for conflicts between Yze and Goodwin are obvious. The dynamics will be interesting to say the least.

Yze can't lose. Goodwin fails ..Yze gets the senior job. Goodwin succeeds ..Yze gets the credit.

2021 could be quite dystopian.

Haydn Bunton and Robert Flower are dead so they’re not saying anything. Yes they were all elite players but never achieved the heights of a premiership. While speaking with them why don’t you ask how they feel about that?

That's just plain disrespectful. Be better.

Doesn't always work that way. My best guess is that assistant coaches take over the top job when their boss gets the chop fewer than half the time. More often, they get moved on, too, as part of a failed group.

Yeah, that sort of thing drives me nuts. Goodwin is on a hiding to nothing.

In my view, the coach is an important cog in the machine, but a cog nonetheless. His ability to utilise the skills of others should be seen as a strength, not a weakness.

Goodwin strikes me as someone who has great relationships with the players at all the clubs he's been involved in. This shouldn't be underestimated - surround him with right coaching staff and we should start to see our results improve.

Delighted he is back!

Why does the press release say ' joined the Club’s coaching panel for the 2021 season'.  Just one year????

Same wording as the Burgess press release last year...

It's a 3 year deal mate.

Or perhaps the fact that Goodwin wanted Yze to join last year when Jennings left but couldn't get him because of contract, shows that Goodwin knows its an area he needs expert support and is thrilled to have him on board.

If Yze helps us succeed it just proves Goodwin was right to try and get him last year!

Thanks.  But why doesn't the club say that!!! Or at least say nothing at all rather than let it look like one year!!!  Grrrr

This is absolutely not the reason they would have got him.

Good news , does Goodwin become his under study ?  Richardson should be given the pink slip !!!!!!

I suppose the Goodwin haters actually believe they are funny! Poor delusional fools! This is a thread to celebrate the return of a favourite son. Go practice your ridiculous stand-up routines on Big Footy!

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
