We tried for Adem last year to no avail and haven’t given up which has resulted in him coming on board.
I said earlier in this thread that out coaching staff is probably the most underwhelming group in the league outside of NMFC. Made up of okay past players and VFL coaches but otherwise very inexperienced.
I’m anticipating the appointment of Yze and hopefully another strong assistant will be just what Goodwin needs for support even though I’m still not sold on Goodwins capabilities.

I also agree in part to the sentiment that if Goodwin fails to make finals again next year then Yze would be a logical replacement.

Agree Steve.

What i like about this appointment is that he does bring 10 years of coaching experience, a dozen flags and success. He like Gary Pert know what it takes to be a successful club.

I know for a fact he had a fantastic relationship with the Hawks players and they loved him. Don't underestimate how big of a loss this is for the Hawks just like when Fagan left them.

The Albanian has returned.

I know who is favourite player is going to be at Melbourne. Wears long sleeves, plays on a wing. Hopefully he can sharpen his kicking skills too.

You did call this last year @Lord Nev
I think Yze was keen on coming to melbourne last year. But hawthorn held him to his deal, which speaks to the regard in which they hold him

Hawthorn held him to his deal but he also signed an extension to 2022 at that time (which was immediately after his "failed" interview for the Crows coaching position).

Knew it would take no time for some to use the Yze appointment to start undermining Goodwin - predictable, tedious, half-cocked. 'Yawn', all right.

Yze has applied for head coaching roles before, was effectively 2IC to Clarkson and has all the necessary coaching badges. It looks very much to me that Yze is being lined up for the top job.

Perhaps Goodwin will come good but if he doesn't the club have a ready made replacement. Now i'm not sure Yze is the answer, i'd prefer an experienced hire if Goodwin is sacked but he's a good insurance policy and many more knowledgeable people than I who think he has the chops for the top job. Could turn out to be a very smart move by Pert.

Whilst I like his appointment from a talent point of view, the fact we are already looking at getting in new assistants basically states that Goodwin isn't going anywhere and for that reason alone, I hate this appointment!

Hardwick had all his assistant coaches replaced before he almost got the boot. Worked for the Tigers.

Didn't we do that last year though?

I went on a Daniher drive to raise money for MN disease. Ooze was on it too with Neitz, Green and Sauce. It was pretty clear to me where his heart belonged.

For all the hate and vitriol on this site for the poeple in charge they have again seen weakness and delivered highly rated replacements.

Excited to see whats next in the review/restructuring.

Yes but nobody from under Clarkson where all the premierships are coming from.

This is big.

Who are Brisbane assistant coaches?? How many AFL games did they play along with Fagan???

Yeah the Hawthorn IP has long been something missing in our coaching make up.

We've brought it in from Essendon, Collingwood, Bulldogs, St Kilda, and others, but an ex-Hawthorn assistant is a strong addition.

Plenty of Geelong too.

If they put in strong assistants and don't perform because of Goodwin's ineptitude, then glad we have a very highly rated assistant who would be ready to take the reins. Can't make much of the review without seeing the other changes.

We need Pert to come out with a detailed explanation after he finishes his review to explain why he has made the changes he has made and why he hasn't made others. I need to understand what the club sees in Goodwin who has underperformed with the list at his disposal, the list built under his guidance. Richmond and Port Adelaide were able to identify their issues and turn them around to save Hardwick and Hinkley respectively. Goodwin has not been able to solve the issue of scoring without leaking goals, he either does one and not the other; we also don't have a recognizable consistent game style. Still more questions than answers at this stage.

Hi all. Been a while.

Yze coming home

Well Chook you were spot on, congratulations for filling us all with some hope on the future direction of our beloved Club.

MFC are really getting their "Ducks" lined up going into 2021, just a few more signatures to ease the anxiety, but this has really lifted my expectations going forward.

Thanks Adem for coming home with your great skill set and thanks MFC for recognising a great signing.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So damn excited to see Ooze back at the MFC. He was my favourite player as a kid and I think this appointment will surpass any player we might get over the trade period for me.

He's going to have a huge impact.

A reminder of just how good he was...

Great news and welcome back Adem Yze. Its a bit of a rarity to have an ex MFC player in coaching panel. I think  that he may be the first since Greg Hutchison back in the 90's. Looking forward to 2021 already. Keep the good news coming MFC.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
