Finals Week 1

Ports young kids stepped right up last night. None of them looked overawed

Our young kids simply must get to that level. Otherwise mid table will be our sealing

Cats were poor. Very poor.

best - Dangerfield, Tom Stewart , Parfitt, Stanley, Tuohy

the rest were lost

disgraced - Rohan, Dahlhaus, Miers

ineffective - Ablett, Selwood, Guthrie, Duncan. They could not run and execute.

The biggest fail - Hawkins goal kicking. 5 behinds , one on the full .  Three were definitely bad misses that he should have swallowed.

Scott putting Danger forward in the second half.  Crap coaching.

Port applied pressure but Cats choked.

All I saw Stanley do was drop marks.

Worst part of last night was Bruce McAvaney's Geelong-biased commentary.

That trio or Rozee, Duursma and Butters are good to watch, they back themselves to take the game on and often it pays off

You’re not wrong! How many ways did he say that Ablett was “almost” having a quiet night. It was embarrassing

I can't stand that bloke commentating, he is the main reason I have the tv on mute when I now watch the footy, 13 year old schoolgirls aren't as hysterical as him.

Ever been to Kardinia Park?

I despise Jeeelong

Hawkins had a massive choke tonight

He copped it from the crowd

don't get me wrong, i'm no geelong fan but as @Diamond_Jim put it, port fans are very much like pies fans on steroids, just hate the port supporter base a lot more.

McAvaney got on my nerves throughout. His hyperventilating when danger scored that goal nearly made me spew!

I am not doubting that. But they are over the Border.
I resent being sent to Jeelong every year, and love watching them choke

The first week of finals is probably my favourite week. Four quality games is just about perfect for the armchair fan especially when they are played in different States under different conditions.

I find him tolerable with certain clubs but completely intolerable with others.

He's impossible to listen to when he's commentating Geelong or Richmond (and in previous years the same issue was with Sydney and Hawthorn). He's also not ideal with West Coast or Collingwood, albeit it's not as bad.

He should give it away.

So Goodwin still has a better finals record than Chris Scott over the last three years. Geelong need to get over WC or Collingwood to draw even....?

2018-2020 Finals record:

C Scott 1-4

S Goodwin 2-1

As if the year couldn't get any more topsy turvy....Trump has Corona apparantly

Good contest this. Tigers seem to have edge.

I know its only quarter time but Richmond looking ominous.  I sense they are here to win. Brisbane will need to  take all their chances if they are to win.

Look at the Pressure in this 2nd Quarter, we should be playing in this game Goodwin.
Get real and do your job MFC

Cracking game so far!

C'mon Lions!

This is a super game of footy, a pity more games aren’t like it.

Can someone please tell Bruce to shut up!! He doesn’t have to repeat everything twice or keep asking rhetorical questions.

There have been some carp games this year, but Lions v Tiges is a cracker. Love seeing the Tiges get rattled. Lions have absorbed the pressure, and their guns are emerging the further the games goes. Rayner, Cameron, Neale, Hipwood, McLuggage.

Makes me so b****y annoyed that we are not playing finals.

He's painful to listen to.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
