What's the bet the pivot involves Treloar?

Polec would have required a bit of money from our end, so will Treloar. Phillips less so.

Would love to raid Collingwood for those two.

There's absolutely no way Collingwood can be asking for a top 10 pick when they're actively pushing him out in a very obvious cap squeeze.

I think Treloar is going to effect everything the Filth do this trade Period.
I hope he digs in and doesn’t move.
He signed a contract that they supplied and now it is time to pay up the back end, Philips could be a bargain

That’s what I was thinking, no way does Phillips command a top 10 pick. If they can get a pick in the low 20’s that would surely get it done quickly on their end.

third rounder - butler-esque surely, we're doing them a favour and hes well outside the best 22

Would we have enough to secure Phillips? I've read an article from Matt Rendell saying that Collingwood could move Mason Cox, and if so they are expected to earn $600,000 in 2021 on his back-ended deal, it would have enough money to cover McDonald's contract.

Cause if we offload Tmac's contract, then we can put the money into giving Clarry a new deal. This might be why we're not wanting to do a straight swap for Phillips with Tmac.

I'd rather free up the $ and give Clarry a new contract and then put Salem on the wing instead of Baker.

Phillips only has 1 year left on his deal so it shouldn't affect resigning Clarry too much. Phillips reportedly on about 550k next season but you'd imagine we could bring him back cheaper after that. But I agree if we don't bring in a winger I'd much rather put Salem on a wing than play baker, and maybe hunt moves back to a HBF to play Salem's spot.

Phillips would be a steal. He’s walking into our best 22 in a position that we need to fill ASAP.

Elite runner.

Probably offer them the pick we get from the Giants for trading Preuss. It’s so obvious.

Josh Mahoney. Get off your @$)&)(&

I’m hearing Phillips won’t happen unless he signs with us. #ETthetradebreaker

Edit: ‘Unlikely’ was the word used.

Please change your avatar. I'm finding it just a bit too irresistible.

Settle down. Trade week hasn't started yet.

Yesterday. Mahoney seemed had surprisingly shut the door in looking at Phillips.

Today.  Mahoney might have stuck his foot in the door and some potential still to engage in discussion with Pies around Phillips.

Maybe he reads Dland!!!!

It is pretty clear we have a strong interest in Phillips if the price is right. I think we are waiting for a last minute fire sale by the Pies.

The way I read it from Mahoneys chat on TR was that Phillips wasn't exactly a top priority,  but would be monitoring his movements throughout the trade period and could have a real sniff if he becomes available.

I’d put it out there that we are happy with

Phillips and Pies Future 2021 3rd rd pick

for our 2020 3rd round Pick and Dees Future 2021 2nd rd pick.

If Pies are paying Tom Phillips $550,000 in 2021 which could've been $600,000 with a good 2020 then their cap woes are understandable. It reads like Essendon post 2000 when cap increases were lower than they had budgeted for and they got rid of Caracella, Heffernan and Blumfield in a fire sale. Challenge Pies face is players in contract can choose their new club which may not be club offering best deal for Pies. In short the player has the power.

Langdon played well and I like Baker but Phillips would be a good addition to out wing stocks at the right price. May we never play inside mids on the wing again.

No way should we give up a 2nd round pick in what will be a strong draft.

They can have Jetta and our future 3rd rounder in their fire sale!

I get that you're gagging for Phillips for whatever reason, but for essentially a second round pick? You're dreaming! I 'd prefer to have at least one winger that could kick. This gives us none.

Tom Morris is reporting he could be at Hawthorn by COB today.

Not a surprise as Mahoney sound like we were out of the running.

Looking more likely we will go down the 'home-grown' path for our other wingman.

This worries the hell out of me and its right up there with Goodwin being the coach.

Very concerned for us next season.

so disappointed in this. Phillips would suit us perfectly and he''d be a walk in for us best 22. So much uncertainty with relying on baker for that role, where as Phillips is a proven winger.

Baffled by some of the decisions our club makes :(

Extremely disappointing.

Besides Brown what a crud trade period this will be.

A chance to fill in a position that we've been screaming out for and it goes straight through our hands.

It will probably work just as well as Harmes down back.

Absolutely mind numbing.

We dont know what the salary cap limits are M94. We dont know what the restrictions are and we cant seem to move Tmac. I agree its a no brainer if we could afford him.

On face value it looks disappointing. However, will reserve judgement until the trade period is completed.

Do you think it may just be possible that Phillips didn’t want to come to the MFC? That it may not have been our decision to make? Why are we always so keen to blame the Club in circumstances like this?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
