There are plenty of organizations that have codes of ethics but that doesn't stop people abusing it.

I’m very uneasy with this growing sentiment that none of the media can be trusted. I suspect the majority of people who spruik such an opinion were on very poor diets (tabloids, A Current Affair etc) and were never that interested in quality journalism to begin with. Widespread-condemnation of an entire profession (and a profession that a cohesive society relies heavily on) is an extremely irrational and dangerous practice. What next? Doctors are out to kill us?

Edit: Apologies. For a moment there I forgot that there already are many “interesting” people in the world who do believe that doctors are trying to kill us.

Cus there is none!!! He does things like this ALL the time in hopes of starting a fire — loves his Blues and is always trying cheekily to get ball rolling on things in hopes one day he can get a player to like the sound of it.

It’s been totally 100% RUBBISHED today by several coterie insiders, Clarrie is going nowhere and doesn’t wanna go anywhere. As for Petracca calling his manager wanting out... oh PLEASE gimme a spell what a hunk-of-tripe!!! Impeccable source or not it’s just so far off the mark it’s not funny

Someone that's not often spoken about in these conversations is Salem. Hear time and time again that he is a ripping bloke that everyone loves at the club. Think he is a real lynchpin... if he goes, problems.,

The annoying thing will be that blokes like McClure aren't held accountable. They have the attitude of believing that if they throw enough mud, something will stick, and they'll use that as a way to suggest their sources are good.

But, that's the nature of the beast these days. Not much we can do about it.

Accuracy in reporting is not a priority.

It’s all about generating discussion, outrage, re-tweets and, dare is say, threads on fan websites.

On the other hand, if they were up and about  many would whinge that they're "not hurting enough" after that season

But Sam McClure made it very clear he is contracted and will be playing for Melbourne 2021.

An act/discussion produced solely to de-stabilise the MFC? Clayton is strongly an MFC fan, and loyal. It means nothing - he'd be one of the last to jump ship.

I posted this a couple of weeks ago as I got told the same thing about a couple of the players mentioned.

It won’t happen as they are contracted but something that needs to be addressed.

In fairness Trac was unsure about signing last year and ended up signing for 2 more years. So players can be turned around.

This is the problem when you continually miss the 8 and have a coach who looks confused and incapable of fixing our issues.

Why the hell would players want to hang around if change isnt made at the top.

We are back to where we were pre Roos and have achieved NOTHING.

Its disgraceful to be back in this posiiton AGAIN.

It needs to change and quickly otherwise its goodbye to our good players who will seek success elsewhere.

You slightly miss the point. The reason Goody is staying is that he has a contract. One that was extended on a whim. The players see that and must wonder what is going on too. Why are you confident Oliver wont leave for another 2-3 years and even then only if things dont turn around? i would like to know Y.  It is only rumour at this stage but I pose this question.

I didn’t miss the point, and goody wasn’t given an extension on a whim, he was given an extension after our finals appearance and improvement, wasn’t he? At the time I am sure everyone was on board with that!

if you think the players are upset there coach who helped them make a finals series got an extension, you are mad.

the fact we have gone backwards afterwards doesn’t mean the extension at the time was wrong, as the club, and us, assumed we wouldn’t continue to improve.

i was just stating an opinion about oliver. Personally I don’t see him leaving at all, anytime. However, if he did, I would assume it would be in a few years when he is still old enough to demand big bucks and go to a team heading for success.

and I don’t think he will leave as he loves his mates, as I stated in my first comment, and I believe he thinks we have the list potential to get back up to the top (albeit with some improvements this draft and trade oeriod)

Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely not part of Simon Goodwin's fan club but regarding club direction, I've not seen too many post replies suggesting that maybe the players need to look at themselves in this as well. Start with less going to sleep and more killer instinct on field, and the direction goes a long way to being created itself. They didn't turn up against Sydney or Freo and now face the consequences.

If we lost either Petracca or Oliver and Goodwin stayed.  We would have very few members next year.  i for one would flip out.

If we renew Viney for 5 years i would also be really unhappy.  He would be 32 and there is zero guarantee he will ever do the team things  like dishing the ball off to a player with red and blue.  Effort is there but he shows very little footy intellect.

Viney is 26yo and 5 months

so he'll be 30 going into his final year of the contract, turning 31yo that year

I'd love to wrap him up for his best years.  I reckon he will improve and drive the group forward

What I’m stating is that I’ve been told by an impeccable source that Petracca phoned his Manager and asked, if his Manager thought it would it be possible to get a deal done. His Manager shot the idea down as being totally impossible.
Now, this may have been a spontaneous call from a highly emotional and at times immature young man, however, I believe it happened and if it did, it demands an immediate inquiry.
TBH, my sense of this being true is so strong, that if I had Pert or Bartlett’s numbers, I would have contacted them to at least get them to investigate directly with the source.

thanks for the info

I do find it hard to imagine a player manager discouraging a big money trade to line his pockets though...

Every year there are rumours. Although the nature of the industry with players seeking better deals, clubs seeking improvement in lists via trading , agents seeking top dollar and footy media needing to break stories means that we have to put up with more talk more of the time.

There will always be players who move to chase dollars and success. Think of Wells and Alves back in the 70s. There have been plenty of footballers who have come to Melbourne despite our lack of success. You can name them. Perhaps it’s getting worse but in the main what’s got worse is the speculation, media beat-ups, and talk.  And with clubs always looking at trade opportunities it encourages the talk feast.

Even if we become a successful club, there will be talk about trading in and out of clubs. Look at the Hawks, GWS, Geelong etc.

Given all the rumours and talk, it is surprising that there is not more player movement. There is always a big move ie Lynch but generally the talk outweighs the actuality.

Sure success is a binding agent but most players make a considered judgement about their futures based on a range of factors. Is the club treating its players fairly? Is it a good place to be? Does the player think that he is getting a fair deal from the coach? Are there solid relationships between players, coaches and staff? Does the club have a good culture?

Anyway, we should take all the talk with a grain of salt. Not get complacent because there is always change, but also not get worked up about it.

So he'd be roughly 27 by start of next season...add 5 to that and you get 32.  He is not worth a 5 year contract, much like Harmes.  The only players i would consider giving 5 years to are Oliver/Petracca.  None of the rest are worth blind faith. If we are giving out 5 year contracts we may as well extend Goodwin for another few years too.

Not trying to convince anyone here....just don't think Viney is THAT good to extend him playing for MFC for another 5 years.  Players get injured like Tom Mac and then we are stuck with the consequences of ridiculous contract durations.  Harmes got offered 5 years also for no real reason.  List management i have zero trust in currently.

Other than the fact that they have been away from their lives and families in a hub for the last 11 weeks under strict quarantine conditions?

the difference is i don't think we have heard rumours on our players.. apart from hogan, am i forgetting anyone? or maybe thats just cos we didnt have players of the level to be targeted?

Arithmetic not your strong point?  Next year would be 1st year of a 5 year contract, that means there would be 4 more years. 1 + 4 = 5 and 27 + 4 = 31.  Try counting it on your fingers.

He is currently 26 and still does not do the basics well.   It is just too long of a contract for a limited onballer.  I could name 2 from nearly every AFL team i would prefer that show more skill and footy acumen.  He is super predictable to opposition, not so much with his teammates. Personally i hope we trade and get an outside mid, we will be far better off.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
