With Geelong forming a dad's army with Higgins and Smith, maybe we can pry a quality young player out that may be starved of opportunity either this year or next. Maybe Clark? Would love for them to fall off a cliff with an ageing list and then lose their young talent in the process.

I think we should have an almighty crack at Clark now.  He wont get a clear crack at it for at least 2 years now. Freo were having a go before the Smith news.

Super talent but contracted for 2 more years. He also looked quite underdeveloped in the grand final sprint, I reckon the Cats are deliberately trying to make him have a big summer and earn his spot back.

You'd have to make Geelong an offer too good to refuse and I'd expect that would be our future first pick and maybe more.

Would love to see GWS play hard ball with Williams and Cameron.  At some stage they need to stand up to clubs and players to make it hard for them to leave.  Match the offers, go after Carlton's first round pick it will be 14 or 15 picks higher than what they will receive from for Free agency, get 2 first rounders and a player from Geelong.  GWS premiership window is shut, time to start to build a side, they have some talented players that still have a lot of football left, get the right players in through trading and the draft they can rebound pretty quickly.

They'll probably get first round compo from Williams. Cameron they have to match. Making it hard for players to leave isn't a real thing though. It doesn't deter anyone, you're just acting like fools. Gold Coast did it last year but only because the AFL for some stupid reason gave them 6 first round priority picks so a pair of 2nd round picks meant nothing to do them.

I reckon end of first round for Williams which could push into the mid 20s.  Understand what you are saying but as some stage they need to do something.  If they match Carlton's bid take their first round pick means Carlton won't get Saad, they just need to make clubs aware that they just won't let players go

They keep having such an over supply of talent. Less so now but a few years ago they had the most ridiculous list you'll ever see. That's why they keep losing guys. They kind of stuffed themselves by creating a culture of players leaving for lack of opportunity but will eventually normalise, playing hardball won't change that. Let's see with the Williams compo, if they really are paying him 900k it will be first round.

Really, 900K a year for Williams is massive overs would have thought 550-650 tops.  Is it front loaded or 900K each year for the contract.

Just interested to know if any of you have heard anything around us now chasing Tom Phillips with Smith out of the picture?

Thanks

Absolutely should have been the no.1 target as soon as the Pies lost in the finals.  They don’t want him. We do. Get it done.

With Geelong's Dad's army approach surely some of their younger players will look to move on.

Lachlan Forgarty would be the one I would be chasing. Contracted until 2021 but has only played a handful of games in the last 2 seasons (maybe injuries, I dont know enough) . I like him as a player. Smallish type but moves well. Mid half forward type.  Would add nicely to our mix.

when he's played i've hardly seen him do anything to suggest he's got much flair or damage and thats in a really successful team that has ball in hand more often than not and lots of time in forward half

Clark played almost every game in his first year and a half before injury.

He’s very good.

Have read there could be attitude problems, but he might just need a change of scenery

only attitude problem is he's desperate for a run in the seniors, nothing wrong with some hunger

Clark's a lot more talented than Baker. Still rumours of a trade back to Freo so he might be gettable but I do find it odd Geelong would really be interested in dealing him

Why would we need Narkle to fill Melksham's role when Melksham can fill it?

Because he was horrible this year, just horrible. He shouldn't have got a game on form, and the coaches faith in him was proved to be misplaced. At 29 years old, he's likely not going to improve.

Our half forwards were the worst performers this year. Melksham, Vanders, Neal-Bullen, Hannan. Fritsch is the only one who generated anything of worth, and even he was wayward with his shots at goal. We need to bring talent into that half forward role if we want to improve.

If he stays fit, Narkle could potentially fill that midfield/half forward role.

Damo mentioned Caddy could be looking for a 4th club in his Sliding Doors segment.

Would take him as an upgrade on Melksham, AVB, ANB, Hannan etc. He’s similar to AVB, but can get 20 touches and snag a goal instead of 10 and a couple of faux tough guy moments. He would be filthy about missing a flag.

He’s not someone I would be directly targeting, but if he’s still around late in the trade period, worth a conversation

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
