I'd like 40-50 good games from Smith.  That would be highly beneficial on a wing opposite Langdon.

As a supporter, why would I care if he's given 2 years or 3 ?  What's it to me (his length of contract) if he gives 40-50 good games ?

The 'good' and 'if' being the sticking points.

I would be very happy with  40 -50 good games.

I don't think he is likely to give us that many. I think we will get 15 -20 good games and about 5 - 10 below average to average games.

Would love Smith on a wing; confidently getting into space and making good decisions into the forward line.

I think he’ll be a great pick up, hopefully we can get it done.  ?

Goodwin? Is there a single player in our forward 6 who'd get a game in either of the two teams in the GF? I think not, Fritsch might be the only one.

Luke Jackson.

How many Port or Brisbane forwards would displace current Richmond or Geelong forwards?

Dees. 3 year deal

Love your work, Doc.

Will it be a 3 year deal for ONE....BILLION DOLLARS?!

Yuck. An elderly player on the downhill slope looking for a fat pension cheque. Hopefully not on crazy money, so we can actually re-sign our good young players, but who knows with Mahoney.

Why bother posting if you're just going to whinge and make non factual statements?

Is there a dumbass award I'm not aware of on here?

A proven quality wingman from a successful club on I suggest a moderate wage but longer than preferred contract at no draft or player cost.  To fill a significant gap in our list for year one, year two whilst unknown options compete for the position  and I suggest develop our youth at Casey our provides good depth in  year 3. This or  a 2 year deal that he doesn’t take with us banking on Baker becoming an ok wingman in 2021 or us trading for a suitable player (cant think of any other OOC or FA) at a a higher cost.

Of course. Why do you think the cap is tight?

Warming to the debate on one of the current threads on this forum Trade & Draft in the Time of COVID re: MFC as a destination club. We think Demonland may be a destination footy blog for members of the sports medical profession as well,  with the good Doctors Evil and Gonzo immediately springing to mind. Sure there are others out there too but memory presently eludes us...

Smith would be an improvement on current 22 and as a FA costs nothing.

3 yrdeal where maybe only get two good years is okay. 10 guys on bottom of list give you next to nothing each year!

I think it’s plainly obvious that we won’t win a flag unless we strengthen the quality of our wings. We saw what an amazing difference Langdon made this year, but he can’t do it alone. Our wings have been a rotating retirement village for unsuitable players.

Yes it would be lovely to get another 25 year old gun wingman like Langdon, but we need to be realistic about our salary cap and the amount of players we have out of contract next year that we desperately want to keep.
Smith might be a short gap filler but he’s proven and can’t do worse than the other options currently on our list. He will cost virtually nothing in terms of cap space and won’t compromise our draft position, so who can bloody dispute that?

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
