I’ve sort of checked out of this season knowing that if we did scrape into the finals we will likely be straight out again.

Can we win this game?  Absolutely.

Can we improve on the last two games?  Undoubtedly.

Do I have confidence we can do both of the above?  No.

I have absolutely no idea how we'll go tonight, but I do know that there will be some impressive passages of play bookended by other pieces of play that will age us all another 10 years.

I would play Nev as a defensive forward. Think he might surprise.

Put him at the feet of May ..  should we consider Lever as the 2nd tall forward??

You reckon Jetta has come into play on Cameron or Himmelberg??

I think the term is “hot and cold”.  It certainly does age us and caused unwanted stress levels.

Beautiful 24c up here today (it was 22c at 10am for my sons soccer game).  Breeze might be a factor. It’s about a 20km southerly today and given our problem with windy days (v dogs and v swans) it might be a problem.  Skilled disposal required !!

We could just leave them in their positions at quarter time,  so they play back in the 1st and 3rd and forward in the 2nd and 4th?

I reckon we should run out on the ground to this. Should rev everyone up.

Who's the biggest?

Kinda regretting my decision to buy tickets to this game. It windy as balls up here again, feel like it going to be a repeat of the doggies game.

Go Dees.

Pass the Shiraz please.

Oops my bad Deever.  Might need copious amounts tonight.  Maybe we should organise a raid on the manor's cellars (noting the use of the plural here).

I agree.  Our skills are horrible and even worse in difficult conditions. At least the Gabba is sheltered more than Metricon or Cazaly stadiums.

Haha I am feeling exactly the same, not sure if I'll make it out of the Aussie Nash.

Keeps looking like he will break out but still not certain if he will be a star.

Most premier sides have a coleman eligible player. Maybe it will be him or maybe Jackson. The latter has shown better form earlier.

Perhaps we should just lure one (although theres not many about).

I have no idea why, but I think we will win tonight.

Full disclosure: I said that the last 2 games.

I agree Deever. Weids is at best a no.2. He doesn’t have the presence to lead the line.

We need to bring in a key forward. It’s our no.1 need. If Hogan is gettable I’d bring him back. Agree options are limited.

I’d worry if we leave Jackson in the forward line with an under-performing Weids alone. He needs to be taking the 3rd best defender. Allow him time to develop. Otherwise he’ll be added to the list of players whose development has been mismanaged by the club.

I reckon we will play him on the wing. The strategy seems to be to identify your best position and then play you somewhere else. It must be a laugh in the rooms each week when Goody explains it.
Absolutely mind boggling!

It wouldn’t surprise given our selectors form.

Just sick of being disappointed, can't see why it would be any different tonight.

I know the Weid has improved this year but I've seen other games where he reminds me of OMac.

I received an email from the Club with Game Day information.

The subject heading .was "must-win match".

I couldn't help replying -

"Must-win match? Like the Swans match? Like the Freo match?"

Is it the Melb way to lose the last two and win tonight? GWS were quite bad last week. Something strange tells me we win. Lets have a look who we can poach from GWS while we are at it. If its windy, then we know what we are going to see!

Feels very dead rubbery this game tonight I know it isn't but the sting in the season definitely left for me after Freo and a lot of the grieving was done.

Mentally checked out. Even if we win, we'll drop next weeks game.

It's not dead rubbery. GWS are not relying on anyone but themselves to make finals. We on the other hand not only need to rely on ourselves but we're relying on at least one other team to drop a game or two other teams to drop 2. If GWS were on the same amount of wins as us then I'd be more inclined to agree.

Even if we win both games which I'm not confident based on the past two weeks the Bulldogs will not lose either of their remaining games and neither Collingwood nor St. Kilda will lose both. We'll kick ourselves for not winning one of the Cairns games.

The most Melbourne of outcomes will be winning both remaining games and St. Kilda losing both games and us missing the finals on % by a bees [censored].

It's definitely not dead rubbery Andy and this is what I need to keep telling myself to pull myself out of the rut and snap out of it.

Also dead rubbery was the wrong term probably should have said lame duck game, for us.

I’m really looking forward to Charlie Spargo continually providing an option as a lead up forward and our players kicking it long down the line to him, in the hope that at a whopping 5’6” he will pluck one against his 6 foot opponent. It’s one of Goodwin’s masterstrokes.

I am also looking forward to see how many quarters ANB will keep his mouth continuously open for. I swear to God, after football is done, he should get a job as one of those clowns tht you put the ping pong ball in the mouth of at Moomba.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
