Must be best available selections now.

Doesn’t sound like Brayshaw is right. If Harmes is, I’d bring him in. Probably for ANB. Get Viney playing as a tackling forward. He can also take a good overhead mark. Plays tall at times, for his size. Mids Tracc, Clarry Harmes.

Preuss has to go. So either TMAC or Brown in. Jackson would be preferable, but sounds like he is another week off.

Bedford provided very little. I’d be inclined to go with Lockhart over him. Reckon we might need him to play on Bobby Hill. Keep him quiet. Goodwin has tried to play Hibberd on these smalls and he gets exposed.

Beyond that, I think we have to pull one bold selection. For me, that is Bennell. He might be a bust, but we can’t die wondering. Hannan maybe a safer option.

No not Hannan he has proved often he is not up to the job at senior level.

OUT: Bedford, Preuss, ANB, Baker, Smith

Possible INs: Hannon, Jackson, Bennell, Brayshaw, T McDonald

Unless Bennell has changed his attitude to playing at full speed he won't be in the side.

Nothing to lose go all guns blazing throw Tom mac up front &  tell him just contest everything, throw Bennell up front, Jetta in the backline. Play one one footy none of this 5-6 players running to a contest an open brand of footy!

I’m still mulling over the comment on another thread where somebody on here was rubbishing Lyon as a potential coach because he suggested TMac at CHB as an option.

Hes certainly an upgrade on his brother or JSmith IMO. If he can’t get a look in the forward line, maybe having him, May and Lever as the three talls isn’t a bad idea.

Incredible turn of evens with GWS losing, it puts the equation in a very simple place again (for both clubs). Win or don’t play finals.

I feel like we need to roll the dice a little and play Bennell, he may not be defensively up to it yet but his creativity and ball use is the best at the club, and he could be the spark that lights us. I would probably say Bedford misses for him.

I think we also bring Brown back in for Preuss, I loved that tackle but I think structurally we need a proper second forward not just a big tall bloke who can chop out Gawn.

I’d also say Smith goes out as well, perhaps for Lockhart or Nev. ANB could be on the blocks perhaps for Hannan.

Ive been pretty out with my predictions but these are the changes I’d make:

Out Preuss - In Brown

Out Bedford - In Bennell

Out Smith - In Lockhart/Nev

Out ANB - In Hannan

why not let the natural forward in bedford get some consistency, pressure was there goals and tackles arent far off. definitely a better option than nibbler, hannan, hunt and lockhart in the forward line

Bring in either Tmac or Brown for Preuss. I’m not fussed which one. Don’t care about other changes tbh. It’s just shuffling the deck chairs.

But for the love of God can we bring some intensity and urgency.

I only mentioned Lockahart in response to another posters changes because  I dont want Hannan or anb. If Jetta comes in then I thought it was an option. I definately want Lochart in.

The only immediately obvious move I'd make would be to drop Preuss for one of TMac and Brown.

Maybe we go with TMac to see if his time out of the side has motivated him and he can find some form.

I remain of the view that Melksham should be dropped but that almost certainly won't happen.

I'm all for playing kids but Bedford was so poor last night I'm not sure we're setting the right standards by playing him. But I'd absolutely keep Baker, Pickett and Rivers in the side.

If Hore's fit, I'd consider giving him a game in Hibberd's spot if Hibberd is sore.

I'm not sold, at all, on vandenBerg or ANB. Would be more than happy for Bennell to get one of their spots.

Rivers is the only kid deserving of a game. Why play kids when they are not up to it at the moment. You still need to pick best available. Let's hope these kids like Baker & Bedford can improve over the off season as they need to if wanting to play AFL

Well, I've gone from 'Play the kids' this morning to 'Best 22 and fingers crossed they find some form.'
Would like to see Baker and Bedford have a go in better conditions and for TMac and Bennell, if not now, then when?

IN: T.MCDONALD, HARMES, HANNAN, BENNELL

HIBBERD.          MAY.            LEVER.

Would like to see Salem and Rivers rotate through the wing. Also keen to get Oliver more outside the contest for a different look, force him to change up his thinking. Viney and Petracca more in the middle.

You can’t have watched the game last night if you’re even suggesting van den Berg to go out.  And you clearly don’t understand that he’s about the only player with really combative spirit in a club full of soft c*o#c8ks.

i believe smith must stay in against the prongs of GWS (Cameron, Finlayson, Himmelberg, Riccardi) unless by some miracle Hore is ready to go. But lockhart has to be in to take bobby we saw what walters did to hibbo. So Salem to the Baker wing

Lockhart May Lever

Rivers Tomlinson Hibbo

Langdon Viney Salem

Gawn Oliver Petracca

Fritsch Weid Melky

Pickett Brown Bedford

vdB Harmes Baker Smith

OUT: ANB, Hunt, Preuss

IN: Lockhart, Harmes, Brown

not exactly like for like but necessary for matchups

Absolutely watched the game.

Saw vandenBerg turn it over almost every time he got it in the first half.

I'm genuinely sick of the argument that he should stay in the side because of his "combative spirit". Our biggest problem isn't "combative spirit", it's our inability to execute the basic fundamentals, and vandenBerg is a repeat offender. Bad kick, fumbly, gives away free kicks.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
