Reckon Tomlinson has been playing pretty well on Hogan too.

Totally agree, reckon he saved 2 goals.

Great.

Still doesn't change the fact he's been playing well on Hogan.

Hogan is just rubbish. Tom gillies could shut him down

#12 Bedford playing a match reminiscent of Tom Gillies.

Looks lost unfortunately.

We clearly didn't listen to Benny on Before the Bounce.

The two major take aways were make sure when we're kicking to the flank (from the left hand side of screen) to avoid kicking it out on the full like we did last game. What happens? May's very first kick out goes out on the full.

The second major take away and is the far side of the ground. What do we do? We let Fremantle own that side of the ground and we also let them use the corridor whenever they liked.

There's no work rate or structure today. No plan for ball movement that I can see. We have players handballing when they should be kicking, we have players trying to pick it up when they should be kicking it off the ground.

Another horrible display. I really thought we'd make finals. Turns out... no.

Can someone tell me why we are relegated to playing in Cairns while other teams play in the comfort of the Gabba? Is there something to prove?

Agree thought it was a tad weird. Would have made sense to send Brisbane and GC to cairns to try and level up the playing field slightly in terms of home games

Because we are a side show and everyone other than Melbourne supporters sees it

We are like the fat kid with glasses who always gets picked last for a team.

Also, I love this four of Lyon, Healy, Brown and Roo talking about the game.  They are really having a go, especially Garry.

Deservedly

Every top 6 side is praying we play finals

I hope it ends tonight

Pathetic Khants!!!

We lack the want to spread, the ability to stick a tackle or the ability for players to hold their position and trust their team mates. Playing like we are we trying to save it rather than win it?

Yep. Fritsch loose down back for the first minute of the game. We already gave up.
Yes ok you wanna protect the Defence when they are kicking with the wind, unlike last week, but we never gave ourselves a chance going forward.

Nope. Could be a big list cull though. Given the players we have, mid table is about right.

You dont  need one behind the ball if your mids and half forwards work hard enough.

Melbourne once again executing their social distancing game plan.  Sickening lack of pressure on Freo.

What's the point of sagging back and letting them chip it around if we have proven we can't rebound or hit a target?  Wouldn't it be better if we pressured them up the field?  WTF is this strategy?  IT'S WET.  YOU CAN'T ALLOW UNCONTESTED FOOTY.

Outcoached again for another half of football by a first year coach.

Garry's in a weird mood tonight, not pulling any punches!  Love it.

Garry Lyon on Jesse Hogan was VERY insightful.

What did he say?

Shameful that the only highlight on the AFL website is a tackle which, while awesome, involved a guy partially falling over

We just play dumb footy and make silly decisions under any sort of pressure at all.

34% kicking efficiency

Looks Hogan picked the right team.

How much coin is Lever on?

Which we clearly didn’t back ourselves to do, against a team lower than us on the ladder. I give up if I know what Goodwin is trying to do.
He builds a plan around dominating clearances but goes defensive first up instead of backing his mids.

Oh boy.

Maybe three good players for us (Langdon, Tomlinson, Oliver).

Goodwin's tactical decision to drop Fritsch as a loose defender in the first quarter was awful. Not only did 2019 show all of us that Fritsch isn't a defender, but it meant every time we picked the ball up we were outnumbered forward of centre.

Our forwards are pressing too high up. Our small forwards are struggling (Bedford so far looks an absolute mile off). vandenBerg literally turns it over every single time he goes near it. Weideman and Preuss can't take a mark. Gawn's showing his frustrated side: stupid taps and mindless bombs forward.

Just nothing happening forward of centre.

I don't think the scoring shots discrepancy is indicative of much. They put a bunch of shots up during that 10 minute period in the first quarter when the wind lifted and the rain hit and we couldn't get the ball past the centre. The uncontested marks look bad too but so many of their marks are coming from backwards and sideways kicks that aren't damaging us.

Nevertheless, if we don't work out how to move the ball and how to generate something forward of centre, we will lose a second straight game to a bottom 6 side when finals are on the line. Inexcusable.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
