BDA 23,048 Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 There’s a great selection to choose from I know but that Sydney loss has to rank right up there with the worst of them. Sydney, a bottom 4 side playing only for pride, were merely competent playing the conditions while we could have taken a big step towards finals but completely blew it. Collingwood in 2017 tops the list for mine given what was at stake. No. 2 is the Hawthorn loss in Rd4 2018 which was a real shocker and harbinger of things to come as it turned out. Port rd1 2019 was very deflating because my hopes were so high coming into the season so its no. 3. I reckon that Sydney loss is no.4 because it probably ends our finals hopes. I don’t have a stand out no.5. Perhaps the 2019 loss v Geelong for pure comical value where we had more I50’s and still managed to lose by 80 points. Quote

Round 2, 2019 vs Geelong - confirmation of everything I was worried about after the pre-season 3. Round 21, 2018 vs Sydney - had finals in our grasp and botched it. Fortunately wiped out by heroics the next week 4. Round 15, 2018 vs St Kilda - caving against a lowly team when there were serious finals implications 5. Round 4, 2018 vs Hawthorn - mitigated somewhat by belting a heap of sides a few weeks later 6. Round 19, 2017 vs North when we had a roaring wind in the last quarter and couldn't overturn a six point deficit. 7. Round 9, 2020 vs Port 8. Round 15, 2020 vs Sydney 9. We'd just won three straight to get to 10-10, including our drought breaking win over Hawthorn and another drought breaking win over Port Adelaide, in Adelaide. We had Carlton at the G with finals still on the table if we won the last two. Carlton was on a 9-game losing streak. Sunday afternoon, 40,000+ at the G. As the OP spoke of only H&A games I had (and this is subjective based on emotional highs at the time, in chronological order): 2017 Rnd 1 vs. St Kilda. The first round always has added emotional weight. We came out with an attacking and exciting brand. 2017 vs Adelaide @ Adelaide Oval. An unexpected win against the odds with bonus comeback and everyone contributing. 2018 vs Adelaide @ Alice Springs. We had beaten up on some lowly teams prior. Came out here and looked truly sublime. 2018 vs West Coast @ Optus Stadium. Holding our nerve to secure finals. A win which defied our psychological profiling. 2020 vs Collingwood. Evident proximity bias plus. But they genuinely put the heat on us and we responded. A pleasing win. 1 2 Quote
