Weed can play but seriously who would want to play in our forward line where there is never space and delivery is absolutely woeful. It would be soul destroying.

There is no way you could lay blame on the key forwards today. The entry was when it wasn’t putrid, it was stupid, either inaccurate or inappropriate! Can’t believe our midfield dished that rubbish up today. Under pressure our midfield failed and the heat was put on our backline big time who battled hard but failed when it counted also. A bad day that makes everyone look bad I suspect.

......... hahhahahhahhahhhahhahhhha under 15s..... HahahHa hahahahaha

I see the correlation. I don’t think anyone is putting the blame on him BUT his inability to contest and bring the ball to ground/get pushed under the ball is a real weakness for a key fwd.

Has anyone raised the fact that the Swans have been in Cairns since Saturday (and training at Cazaly since) while we flew up this morning?

I don’t know about you, but being on a plane flight for 2hrs and then expect to play a side that’s been there for 5 days and already training there seems a bit rough.

The performance was inexcusable but this further highlights the inequality of this season.

Honestly the ammount of time the players instinctively wanted to handball it off without thinking you would think the ball was smothered in covid.

Clarrie sprinting forward out of the centre handballs backwards to Gawn standing still.  Grrrrrraaaaaagh

Yes been there in under age. You know your are centre half forward you lead wide all day to get separation and watch your mids kick it to the lumbering backman behind you repeatedly. If you are big enough you just sit in the hole I suppose.  That is footy. But not at AFL level but you wouldn’t have seen that up in Cairns today, that was not AFL, that was under age suburban footy level by MFC.

Recent history and performances across a 3-year period clearly indicate that Goodwin is no 'genius' as Coach; and, OMac has never been a 'good footballer' (his only reliabilities are to be last to the contest and fully useless within it as a means of self-protection).

I know mate.  I was being sarcastic.

Omac up forward was a master stroke by Goodwin.

FMD Omac should NEVER play for us again.

Jones u r done son. Ffs retire the game has passed you by unfortunately.

Goodwin ffs exit stage left. U r a hopeless match day coach. I must admit I won’t miss those shots Of u in the coaches box with those stupid blank looks on ur face.

Another wasted season.

How many times in my 49 years have we lost "that game" - i.e. the one against a struggling side, lower on the ladder than us, that would help cement our spot in the finals (or even the Top 4) and actually give us some hope that maybe we're a chance of going all the way?  Will we EVER be able to trust this team? I think not.

And Richmond, Brisbane and Port have barely travelled. There is the Grand Final teams.

I was sure you were going to say you were moved to the half forward flank.

In keeping with your sarcastic humour, you are a card, you should be.........

GWS are giving their mums and dads (no fans) are difficult night too. You would have to question Leon Cameron, and whoever their goal kicking coach is. How many points have been kicked???

Sorry for that, that was over the top. Grumpy after the loss.

Scene: the coaches box at Cazaly Stadium

Goody: Dunno about you Richo, but I have to admit, I was blindsided. Those Swans really came to play. I wasn't expecting that. That Longmire's a flippin' genius. I'll have to study the replays to work out what happened there.

Richo: I reckon I've got it worked out.

Goody: Yeah?

Richo: Yeah. I used to coach this mob, you know.

Goody: Did you?

Richo: Yeah. The red white and ... red?

Goody: You were a senior coach?

Richo: Oh yes. I reckon I might have coached against you at some point.

Goody: (thinks: I knew I'd seen this guy somewhere)

Goody: Hang on ... wasn't that St Kilda? Red white and black?

Richo: Was it? (thinks: red white and ... red white and ... oh [censored])

Richo: (coughs) Anyway ... have you ever noticed that our blokes can't catch the ball?

Goody: (thinks)

Goody: Yeeeeeeess ...

Richo: Well, what if you made it so they never had to catch it?

Goody: How?

Richo: You roll the ball. You can't drop it if it's already on the ground.

Goody: It makes sense. They'd never drop it cause it's already on the ground. Great thinking! Let's get on the phone to--

Richo: But wait. There's more.

Goody: Crikey. More? You're a real ideas man, Richo.

Richo: Yes ... yes, I think you're right. Anyway: you know how our blokes can't kick straight? If you're rolling the ball, you don't have to kick it. Cause you're rolling it.

Goody: Yes, yes, I see what you mean. You can't kick out of bounds if you're not kicking it. Bloody hell. You're a flippin' genius.

Richo: Yep.

Goody: Let's get the coaches together. This will blow their minds. There's just ...

Richo: What?

Goody: I dunno ... something about this new idea ... I can't put my finger on it ...

Richo: We'll trial the idea and see how it goes for two or three seasons, then fine tune it.

Goody: You're my kind of thinker. I knew we got you in for a reason.

Reality is we are 6 decent players off being a top side. This happens over and over again get rid of the dead wood. Weid regressed to his 2019 form tonight but had plenty of mates

Pathetic post-match presser from Goody. All the usual stuff in the same monotone voice. 'We're working hard' 'Better connection' 'We'll learn' 'There were some positives'... I get that what is said to the players is probably different, but does he even realize that this is his one chance to communicate to the people who make this club exist? It's becoming more and more apparent he knows the problems but has no actual answers.

And Roos couldn't understand why a "Veil of Negativity" surrounds the club.

We have heard this for nearly 2 seasons now. Better not be for 3. ?????

Another disgraceful performance.

It keeps happening. The players aren’t willing or capable of making the necessary mental changes to play consistent football week to week. And Goodwin is repeatedly failing to get them going. I agree with all those referring to the opening bounce. You could tell from the very start we were flat. Inexcusable.

It’s time to accept a few realities about our list, realities many of us already knew. Oscar McDonald is not good enough and will never be good enough. He has had enough chances. He is an utter liability with the ball in hand and his defensive work has, somehow, regressed this year. He is a complete disaster, so much so that Goodwin threw him forward to get him out of the backline, but he was so bad there he then had to swap him with May. Just terrible. IMO, that should be the last game he plays for this club.

Same goes with Jones. It was bad enough that he turned it over with a left foot shocker, but for him to then follow that up minutes later with a rinse and repeat left foot shocker is all you need to know about him. He is done. He shouldn’t be playing. It’s sad, we should honour his achievements, but he is a wreck out there.

Is it a coincidence that when we brought Smith back our defensive set up fell to pieces? I’m not sure. But he’s not a footballer.

Melksham should have been dropped 5 times this year. He is lazy, selfish and pathetic defensively. So is Fritsch. I don’t think we can play both.

I thought Langdon was our clear best all day. His missed goal was deflating and he clearly has a goalkicking issue, but at least he can hold his head up as an example of someone who played their role to the required standard. Gawn’s marking was great and I actually thought his tapwork was fine. The issue in the middle was the mids falling to pieces: fumbling, quick fire handballs to no one, poor decisions, lazy kicks.

Harmes looked lively in the fourth when given the chance to play mid/forward. Can we accept now he’s not a defender?

Just like 2016 and 2017, they get our hopes up and then fail. I don’t know how many more times we can have someone bake us in the media, or someone say “that will burn in our guts”. It’s a pattern and maybe we need a reset of some sort to break it.

It probably isn’t the answer to the problem but for now it’s part of the solution.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
