POSTGAME: Rd 14 vs St. Kilda

"Petracca’s midfield numbers were low but jeez his goals were huge, if it were at a ground with the goal line camera would his goal stand? Not sure.

The GOal Umpire was less than 2 metres from the ball/player and called it a goal.

I do not think the review system does anything for the game !!! Because the media think it is perfect. Goal Umpires are part of the game just like umpires. Do we stop to review every decision the field umpire makes ????

Hibbered in the last 1 minute of the game saved us with a game saving tackle.

That's as courageous as it gets after looking like he wouldn't come back on.

He's had a really huge tumultuous year.

Hope he's back and fit next week.

Jones f-up was with 60 seconds to go, he didn't ruin Q2

We were 15 points up at that time, with one minute to go. I believe that assisted greatly in ruining the second quarter.

Brown didn't do a lot, but did enough and did everything right

That back with the flight contest, the long goal, and the last 3 mins clutch possession on the far side means he's still in for me

That will keep him in the side, did what was required, competed well, held some tackles and kicked a snag.

Maxy summed it up best, making us smile back at home. That’s all we need sometimes, don’t really care how it looked,  really gutsy win. Praise again for May and Trac. Incredible the both of them.

Special mentions to Lever, Hibbo, Salem, Langdon and Captain Max.

To be fair Pates, if May has 5 fewer decisive touches down back, we lose. I wouldn’t go overboard on Goody out coaching them.

I’m not a Goody basher but setting up a plan and 2 blokes winning you the game isn’t a coaching master stroke for mine but very happy with that win.

My point is that May is able to get those marks because the set up allowed him to. I get annoyed at people happy to say “Goodwin completely outcoached” when we lose but when we win it’s down to the players. I wasn’t happy with Goody’s coaching last week, but this week they worked on the structure and executed it well.

May and Trac won that

Absolutely. Wagner was better than expected. OMac didn't impress at all - drop. Goodwin was very lucky he had May and Tracca onboard. I'd reckon there were eight passengers.

It was a mark right in front to Tracc as well which didn't get paid in that play.

So glad we got the decision anyways.

Kudos to the Coaching staff we actually stop a run and gun team play on their terms.

But what the phark were we doing in the 2nd quarter.

These run on goals has to stop, 6 in a row last week and 4 in a row tonight, you can't allow this [censored] to happen week in week out.

We'll in Riv tonight, great bit of business that fella.

Yes it’s the run on momentum Goals that kill games so quickly now

We were lucky tonight. Anymore than 4 may have changed things.
the defence was superb for the last 30 minutes

I am no Goodwin fan, but credit where it’s due. They changed the midfield setup in the second half and it paid off.

Or a free kick! As you say we got that decision go our way.

Interesting and somewhat claustrophobic game.  I've never seen us kick so badly around the ground, but our early clean conversions gave us a chance. So important.

I think we used the corridor once the entire game?  Clear strategy looked to be to keep it out of that area at all costs where their pace would murder us.

The game was sufficiently clogged up after that and neither team had the kicking skills or courage to get a risky running chain going.

Horrible in the guts early as a group but Viney then did a job on Steele and Oliver made up for his first half blunders with a competitive second half and a fierce attack on the ball.  Brayshaw a concern again, looks all at sea.

Great D lead by Frothies May and unusually straight goal-kicking for the win.   PHEW

The thing that I liked was that unlike many games in the past when we dominated the stats and lost, we won this one despite the Saints winning the inside 50s 46-30, clearances 29-23, tackles 47-36, free kicks 11-9, hitouts 31-30 and scoring shots 14-12.

Tells me that Goody made changes to the game plan and that the players followed them.

Credit where credit is due, although if Trac has his normal kicking boot on we lose by 3 goals.

How was it not a mark anyway? Football gods if you ask me.

Brown's leads are commendable - not for a goal shot, but to maintain possession and seek a pass/feed. Keep him there as he is going to clunk a few in a row, as well.

They ran around us for 15 minutes before that, and the 30 seconds after it

We're lucky they didn't capitalise, and we could grind it out for the 2nd half

We were 21 points up half way through the 2nd qtr then we went to sleep, put the cue in the rack for a 3 points half time lead.

More Votes for Christian and if he plays those sort of games we are going to have many great times for years to come.

Christian lead from the front and Steven May cleaned up from the back and bamboozled the St.kilda forward line with his two little brothers in Lever and Oscar.

The 4 points should go to May. A deadset one man fortress.

(But to be fair, Salem, Trac, Rivers, Langdon, Lever and Weed were also great ).

A lot of passengers, though. Which is disappointing, but also kind of promising - imagine who we can beat if they get involved!

The trust / respect between May and Salem is starting to become obvious and productive.

Melky weighted and change of angles work. Salem has his individual program. White cap (no contact), Howes, Woewodin and Sparrow

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
