Calming down a bit: not so bad. Managing sore players might be a factor.

Fritsch stiff - he wasn't great last week, but he still took 10 marks - Brown won't give us that. Lockhart also stiff, but I think Rivers is an upgrade.

Harmes and TMac well and truly deserve to be dropped, and Sparrow and Preuss were never going to be playing.

Fritta was dropped for not turning up to training on time.

Rivers is an upgrade on Harmes.

Not necessarily Lockhart.

Have been told Wagner been playing a forward roll in scratch matches recently and will be playing that roll this week. Omac a good in to cover extra talls and lever can play intercepter and he hasnt been confident to do so when had opponent to look after last two weeks. Rivers straight swap for Lockart. Brown more mobile than McDonald. Jones to apply pressure and Gawn a gun. Theres a positive spin on the changes

How can you retain Mecano Man T Mac, Bring back slower O Mac, Slower Jones, and also KEEP Spargo?? Wagner ?? Gees he is the answer NOT!

What happened to injection of pace, Oscar Baker, Hunt, Jordan, What the hell did Lockhart do to get the chop

PRUESS FOR GOD SAKE HAS BEEN A SOLID PERFORMER IN LAST TWO WEEKS

HARLEY BENNELL??

I don’t want to ruin your rant, but Tmac has been dropped... please carry on

For a do or die game six changes is a strange move.

I don't like the the Lockhart decision but the rest of the changes seem justified. Brown may do better than TMac. Fritta's defensive efforts and kicking have been poor and Harmes has been lucky to play as often as he has. OMac may be brought in for a specific job.

Not sure where they plan on playing Josh Wagner...

?????

T Mac is dropped and Bennell can’t get near it in the scratch matches.  O Mac is a very sensible option the Saints are massive and he will cover their resting ruck
Preuss is not a forward and is uncompetitive below his knees.  There is no room for him when Max is around.

Hard to argue with the outs. Lockhart perhaps, but he's been OK, nothing more. Could be more to it, who knows, no-one here does in any case. Perhaps the FD feel that Rivers brings more.

Fritsch will be missed.

Don't entirely hate the selections. I think for the most part its about putting the fittest team on the park especially with a 5 day turnaround.

Lockhart stiff but can't help but think it might be a fitness thing perhaps as he's looked sore since the corky against the crows. Rivers gives you a different look, better ball used and more dash off half back. I imagine Jay will be back for Thursday.

We've been carrying Harmes and Tmac all year. I like the call to cut them finally. Tom has looked off the pace and Brown gives you more versatility. Will be interesting to see who pinch hits in the ruck between Brown/Tomlinson/Weid.

As others have noted Omac in to look after their resting ruckman up forward. I imagine we'll see more Tomlinson up the ground.

Jones for experience I guess....

Wagner been playing consistently in the practice games. Will be very interesting to see where he will play as he's being spending more time up the ground on practice games.

Fritsch really hurts. Been arguably our most consistent forward. Apart from his wayward kicking he's been our best target all year and works well with Weid. Sigh....

So much for stabiising the team.

Richardson made two comments yesterday about team selection:

1.  Players will be rotated over this compressed fixture.  Maybe why Lochhardt is out.

2.  We will definitely bring in speed - looks like he lost that argument at the selection table!  Goodwin prevails!!

Ryder and Marshall will work Max over.  And who will relieve him in the ruck?  I certainly hope it isn't Weideman!

So has Harmes. Maybe Picket has trouble reading?

Once we become negative somehow  it runs through the whole system . We will know in 24 hours.

He let them team down, couldn't even get to training on time.  I would delist him tonight to be honest.

Don’t think the number of changes is the problem and nobody seems to be upset about TMac or Harmes being dropped. They have been [censored] all year.
I am just confused by some of the changes against a fast team, after we got burnt by a fast team 6 days ago. That’s all.

AND THE CHANGES, APART FROM BIG MAX, WON'T MATTER IF THE MIDFIELD DON'T TURN UP AS LIKE LAST ROUND.

iF mAX AND THE MIDS CAN PLAY THE GAME OF THEIR LIVES WE'RE A CHANCE imo. iF NOT THE CHANGES GENERALLY DON'T ADD MUCH.

You'd ask him why he turned up late?

What a harsh authoritarian you must be!

  • GAMEDAY: Fremantle

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
