We are cactus

With the above - happy with the changes overall, although I reckon Lockhart is a little stiff.  Thought he had been pretty good.

I like the Brown inclusion as is smart enough to just play his role, and can do so up the ground away from Weideman.

Bit mystified by the Josh Wagner inclusion, and same with Oscar, although Oscar coming in might mean we push Tomlinson back to a wing.

Rivers has speed.

Looks like we went with some experience, though.  Jones, Gawn and Brown bring plenty to the table in that regard.

On the face of it...

I don’t like it.

Lockhart dropped?! Horrendously harsh IMO, the more so given he was surely a good match up for Butler.

Old binman saying:

When you need a win, bring omac in

Aside from Rivers.... so much for the "bringing in some pace/speed" call.

Lost two players with a bit of toe for one.

Saints will be licking their chops here and while we are always a chance, they 'should' win this one with relative ease me thinks.

No idea what Lockhart did wrong to be dropped. Agree that we need an extra tall down back given Saints are quite top heavy up forward. Brown can’t do worse than Tmac and Harmes, well maybe if they played him in a correct position he may perform.
Overall a big meh and god help us if we get smashed, as I suspect we will.

Don’t really care much for the game, until Goodwin goes we’re going nowhere quick. Just looking forward to seeing Browntown kicking a back.

Saints will belt us using the same method as every other time.

Speed, non stop running and 100% defensive effort.

Reckon this is a 40+ point loss coming up, and the heat will be right back on the coach.

Might be his last chance, bin.

Saints play a tall forward line - they have named Battle, King, Membrey and Marshall there, with Ryder in the ruck, so I can understand his selection and our need for a little more height down there.

But with him OOC at the end of the year, he might get a few games here to show us why he deserves another contract.

I have it on good authority that Tmac and Harmes have been put on JobKeeper

With the season and possibly Goody’s career on the line, this is a mind boggling selection.

That is the most utterly disgusting team we have picked all year. The ins include slow wet wags, I like the way they drop Lockhart and don't bring in someone to play on Butler. What is going to be. Tomlinson ?????? St Kilda would be wetting themselves looking at that side.

Happy with the changes.
O Mac to the resting ruckman

May to King

Wagner deserves his chance by the sounds of things and surely can’t do any worse than what Harmes has been dishing up.  I’d also rather Rivers over Lockhart

O.Mac, Spargo and J.Wagner in that already 3 passengers. Worst side we have put in all year.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
