i guess with higgins out a larger priority for them because they owe the player more for what he's given them and teh false hope they gave him last year. they'd rather he left (salary cant be an issue for north) and they need some bodies about to lead by example and take pressure off all the kids. but ultimately you'd think theyd rather the 32yo who will be dusted in a year or two over the expensive 27yo

I think Lake was 'only' 29 when he was traded, big difference to a 32yo in football years anyway. Smith will probably fall off a cliff next year if he's losing his pace.

I'll reckon he'll jump off it if he wears a MfC jumper next year. Or maybe I will.

Wouldn't mind guessing it might end up being a straight swap between Oscar McDonald and Jared Polec.

North were interested in Oscar in his draft year, and given a few of their key backs are older/leaving, he'd definitely appeal.

It'd just be about how we sort that large Polec contract...

Their bizarre trading decisions could be explained if they were stone broke, but it's (the cap) paid by the AFL. It would explain getting rid of all the staff though.

everyone seems fairly aware of what it is now tho, yeah?

i guess just a matter of time

Perhaps, but the person's well being and privacy and that of his family are paramount.  The longer it stays out of mainstream media the better.

Therr is a bigfooty rumor getting around about Shaw.

Pretty devastating if true.

North have real problems if the rumors are true. Place seems fractured at all levels.

We enquired about Polec and started talks, but things haven't progressed for variety of reasons and a trade seems unlikely now.

Do you know if they stalled because of the shaw situation?

Trade TMAC for Polec. Both are on ridiculous coin but we would get more value out of Polec, as we could put him on the opposite wing. Throw OMAC in the deal. North will need a both forwards and backs with the impending departures of Brown and Tarrant, and we need a quality wing. We get no value out of TMAC, he is done. Replace him with Hogan if we can get him cheap - which we should be able to.

gary buckenera on polec's value:

Polec is an interesting situation. He’s on a good contract so that complicates things. If I was list manager I would want to keep him. But if Rhyce Shaw wants him out and a club is willing to pay his whole wage, then the Kangaroos will basically trade him for nothing. In other words, a salary dump. If the Kangaroos still pay some of his wage, then a pick around 40 would be a decent deal. This is how poor list decisions hurt.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
