What would he be worth now?

Second rounder now. Not worth 1st rounder because he isn't in freo best 22.

Where has this been reported? Not attacking you, just curious.

I would take Hogan back in a heartbeat, trusting the club to nuture him. He was the closest to an A grader we had pre-max and Clayton's arrival  and can be again.

Hogan/Weideman/Jackson - scary IMO

Just a thought...

We’ve all seen the lack of connection between our midfield and forwards the last 2 years. Any chance Jesse had a reason to be upset, and actually helped cover over that glaring issue during his time at the club?

I’d love him back. We need natural competitors with skills.

yes, and plus he had a huge engine as a runner.

Was thinking the same, a second round paick sounds fair.

There may be an obvious answer to this question which escapes me right now, but who was the last player to leave Melbourne for another VFL/AFL club and then come back? Anyone since Carl Ditterich?

I appreciate that it happens rarely across the competition, although there have been some notable exceptions, such as G Ablett Jr, Paul Salmon, John Barnes and Trent Croad. But it's rare and, I suspect a guide to suggest that it won't happen this time, either.

Crackers Keanan

Looks extremely out of shape at the moment.

Longmuir was less than complimentary in his assessment of Hogan at the moment and his scratch match form.

Bottom Line

Jesse has loads of talent, but he doesn’t want to play at the top level enough.
We have seen the best of his career

Not sure i'd take Jesse back, great bloke, loads of talent, but we aren't in a position, leadership wise to get the best out of someone like that.

I'd take him back.

Great when the ball is in his hands.

Nice kick, great turning ark, difficult to tackle, big ego.

He will always be upset with others not giving him the ball and can get lost for awhile.

I think he would try hard with us if given a chance. We dealt with the many issue he had fairly and sympathetically.

Actually I think we need him.

Our forward line would be the WA boys, Pickett, Jackson, Hogan.

Hogan could settle them in to MFC so they don't get homesick and want to return west. Something like, the grass isn't greener or better support here, etcetera.

PS. I'd also take back Watts. I'm invested in the players that we go through.

Watty would help Gawn out.

B, nearly A graders both of them.

Wow. Hogan and Watts back. That’s not lifting the intensity index. I’m after players that will walk across nails and hot coals to get a premiership

Heard that Collingwood were keen but can't for the life of me imagine how they could fit him in when they're struggling with Moore and Degoey's contracts as it is.

I'd take Jesse back, no problems.

Freo might pick up a chunk of his 2021 contract $ just free up a list spot for someone who can get on the park.

Not sure Pies is a good place for his mental health.

Serious ?

You guys are like the forgiving partners of a problem gambler who keeps promising to quit.

Jessie has been in the headlines again & again & barely played a game since he left us.

Sheeet we may as well re sign Jurrah & Mitch Clark while were at it

The heart wants what the heart wants.

I chop and change:

I want him back when we're playing like a dumpster fire and battling to kick 4 goals a game against bottom 5 garbage sides.

I don't want him when we're up and about and look like a half decent side with a bit of forward potency - eg - 100 points V's Collingwood.

Would be a far better forward line than the one we’ve got atm

I agree with this  - going after/inviting Hoges back. He treated him well and we know what his best is capable of.

T.Mac out, Hoges in.

He will take the pressure off Weides & Sky Walker and allow them to develop.

Also an interesting call with Watts. He loves /loved the MFC. If he was here now he would still be one of our best kicks. I except he's soft but an enormous talent.

Both these guys would come cheap (Hoges not so much).

We then need to draft quick outsider runners - with great kicking skills.

The only synergy between him and Collingwood is the regularity that both manage to create headlines off the field. I think he would crumble under the expectations of the magpie army.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
