Time to get Jordan Lewis into the coaching role.

Made one really bad mistake, but other than that was ok

Agreed. Great 66 word game summary.

I didn't think he was at his worst, but there were a couple of turnovers that didn't help - the no look handpass to Grundy for the goal wasn't great but nor did he drop his head either. Our backline is just looking really solid right now.

Would love that.

Wouldn’t listen to Garry Lyon to much, we have to win by over a hundred points for him to give us any credit

Agree.  Lever was average. Good spoils. One good mark. One missed tackle.  Two bad turnovers that cost goals.   Had a good last 3 weeks but today was “not his best”

I agree with all except Jones.  He had a good game.  Effective with the footy.  Tackled hard.  Noble and Daicos won’t be saying he is slow.

Yeah I liked them all but I thought Jones made some real important contributions at times.

Jones is not slow just old, he has never been slow, it's a known fact every demon player is 29% slower then the average AFL player.

Brayshaw - works effectively attacking

Salem - possessions more favourable

Langdon - keeps getting better

Petracca - much improvement left

Oliver - same as traktor

May - heart in mouth

Fritsch - 'looks' very good

Viney - same as usual

Hibberd - never sure what

Preuss - market value doubled

Melksham - better than Hannon???

Lockhart - continues to impress

vandenBerg - very courageous player

Jones - 8 to go

Weideman  - structurally important now

Harmes - just not sure

Spargo - continues to surprise

Tomlinson - goodness gracious me

Sparrow - 27 . . . good get

McDonald - market value halving

Lever - some big questions

Pickett - please don't drop

MFC - Nice century score.

Weid - Kick to me.

Preuss - No more lumbering.

TMac - One good goal.

Pickett - Busy little bee.

Trac - Watch my goal.

Vanders - Watch out boys.

Gus - Seen the light.

Spargo - Wind him up. (And watch him go).

Oliver - Hitting the targets.

Jones - years best game

Harmes - is really struggling

Lever - Had a shocker.

Only one to have a shocker mind you.

Expectations give him a key role on the backline, demanding a larger territory in which to intercept and dispose of the ball. He is not as strong in such roles; he needs to start off in the back pocket/half back flank area where the range of the roaming role is more constrained; thus, his interceptions and run-on to play (as a play maker) can be done without interim periods of exhaustion or late arrival,  getting to the contest and/or reading the play as a more defenders concentrate at the location of the incoming ball. Ping! He's there, he's got the ball, he has disposed of the ball, he is reading ongoing play as he returns back to his 'nest'. Reduce the area of responsibility, increase the effectiveness of his disposal and his chipping-in to the turnover.

Tomlinson reminds me of a Neeld-era player. Can't see it.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
