One of the better captions!

Yeah they were actually! Think Jones had a chuckle after the second one. Right idea though!

I reckon it was pretty rough to call them out of bounds too. They both looked in or borderline at best.

Just reflecting on the fact that Collingwood had 5 big Ins this week:

Pendlebury, Reid, Elliott, WHE and Moore

And we smacked them out of the park

That's all.

Lever's wild panic 'clearance' HB that gifted a goal...

Harmes switch kick that was cut off by Varcoe who fortunately hit the post.

Will HE chest marking a high ball in the goal square by himself..

There's plenty but we more than made up for them in other areas. a great overall game

That kick from Harmes went straight to Varcoe at CHF, Harmes executed the kick really poorly he had other options and he missed his target in the corridor by 10 or more metres.

What was really frustrating is our zone had worked a treat and he was there in perfect time to cut off the option, but then butchered it by foot.

I think they like Harmes' toughness and gut-run, which is why he's keeping the likes of Rivers out. I'd persist with him for another game or two and hope that his disposal starts to turn in game.

He showed some signs of settling into his role yesterday and hopefully with this, comes increased DE. We'll see. Otherwise, I'd like him playing on the opposite wing to Langdon.

Watched the first half again this morning and thought Harmes and Jones were excellent in the contest and used the ball well.

All true, but reading the Pies' forums, they think that Pendlebury was underdone, Reid (even before this round) is finished, and WHE wouldn't get a game at any top club. Thought it a miracle against the run of play that he took that mark in the goalsquare.

More broadly, they're over Buckley as a coach, think he's one-dimensional and are getting back on the lines of "9 years ... how many chances does a coach get before time's up?" and noting that Clarkson may be available ...

Good clubs, such as we aspire to be, should be spanking other clubs down on their luck, struggling with injuries, or simply off the boil. God knows it's happened to us enough. We're back in the territory where every round brings its own unique mental challenge. We should be better than that, but it beats the pants off 2019. Time to bring the blowtorch. GO DEMONS!

Interesting that I had the impression that Harmes was terrible with his disposal yesterday when he went at 93% DE. I don't rate the statistic, but I'm going to have to watch closer I think.

Look, this is fair TBH. I agree with the sentiment that Gus is the guy that can get it on the outside, but Goodwin did persist with it for too long IMO, because we knew Brayshaw's best footy was "in the back off half 2018, when he was averaging 20+ centre attendances". This was Goodwin being stubborn. 10 games is way too long to make the change.

Anyway, we've made the change now, hopefully we stick with it for the future.

That's fascinating. I might have to re-evaluate my confirmation bias as I too had the impression watching live that his kicking was errant.

Spargo's small forward craft for his third goal was a thing of beauty. Great camera work by Fox that fully captured it.

He seems to confuse an inside-outside mid with a wing man.

To my mind Gus is currently an inside-outside mid.  He can get the ball inside when it his turn to take the tap and spread out when it isn't.

I think McGowan means Goodwin persisted too long keeping Gus on a wing.

I assume that is what he meant.

Ok, we can twist any number, lets talk percentage of centre bounce attendance not numbers.  So you start with 4 then an additional centre bounce for every goal.  I reckon the amount of goals kicked over the last 3 weeks will be higher than rounds 1 to 9

Harmes made two errors in the second half. One dropped chest mark in the wet and a poor switch kick. Overall, it was his best game for the season easily.

Yes that's right, we need more context.

But we know this week that Oliver had 20, Viney 17 and Petracca 16. So we know that Brayshaw was used in a proportionately high amount of centre bounces.

I'd love to see the same figures for the North and Adelaide games.

Id like to see that as a percentage. Most of our earlier games were lower scoring and hence fewer centre bounces

Does anyone know whether Pruess got an injury and played on through the last quarter?

The AFL app had him as injured during the third quarter and he was not sighted at this time.

I know he came back, but wonder if he was carrying something, putting him in doubt for selection next week

Was limping/cramping after the siren. Not surprising given his limited preparation.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
