Was it just me or did Preuss look like a pretty decent ruckman?

He also has been, just got kept out of Norths side by Goldstein and our side by Gawn, which is why so many were surpised when he decided to come to Melbourne other then another team with less ruck stock where he'd get a lot more Senior games.

Ah....isn’t it great to beat the Filth?

If he keeps it up when he had the opportunity he'll be a good pickup for someone next year and might net us something decent in return. He deserves to be playing seniors and is now 3rd in line at the Demons.

Petracca was interviewed post-game and was asked what had changed since the Port game. He said defence.

Its why OMac is not in our best 22

Good effort from Nathan Jones - as a defensive half-forward, he effectively subdued Crisp (who had 6 inside 50's last week)

I agree on our consistency.

The Adelaide and North games were hard to get a read on because of how poor they both were.

Today, we were on top of Collingwood from the outset. Wasn't just us running over the top late. We were strong from the start.

The Port game is the only bad game we've played since the Richmond game, and neither the Richmond nor Geelong games were terrible.

However, the fact that we failed to pick up either of the Geelong or Brisbane games means we don't have much choice but to back this up again vs the Dogs and likely again the week after vs St Kilda. If we go 0-2, we'll then need to win all four of our final games to get to 10 wins. If we can even go 1-1 the next fortnight, that then lets us go 3-1 in the final four to make it to 10 and play finals.

These are two big tests for us. The Dogs might make me seem silly tomorrow when they play Adelaide but IMO they're better than their recent formline suggests. When they get going they're hard to stop. And we all know we stink against St Kilda when they're average, let alone when they're in the top 4.

We have the team that can beat anyone.

We're very fit. Our last quarters are confidence building.

Very few injuries

Favourable draw

Were actually playing like a team

Lots to like

The fitness is shining through and the fact we didn't get blown off the park early allowed us to hang in there enough and then go to work on our pressure game. Bring that this week and we will go a long way to winning I think.

Our goal kicking was awesome tonight.

13.1 to 5.7 after quarter time.

That’s not to shabby.

It's the best game I have seen Jones play for a long time. Let's face it he has been out of form but tonight was a big step in the right direction. Hitting form at the right time maybe he can get to 300 games after all.

One of the best things was watching collywobble supporters leaving near the end of the 3rd quarter. How weak is that.

Thanks for coming, we were saying.

Ah the memories.

For me Lord it’s the way goes at the ball and tackles. He does turn it over but geez the opposition look twice when he is around.

He is a brick wall and that marking attempt where he knocked out the Collingwood player typifies this.

He also got a knock from his own teammate and it was a heavy knock right in front of us and shook it off and kept going.

100%, could never question his commitment or toughness, they're the things I absolutely love him about him.

Really like Jones at half forward. Had a very solid game.
Harmes in the back line is like Gus on the wing. A waste.

I knew when the UMPS were giving us frees it would be our night.

I love the umps. (Well for this round anyway).

What is this strange feeling I have towards the umpires tonight? It’s like the opposite of anger.....

got very well looked after by them tonight. Makes up for the last few weeks

You didn't see De Goey rip the Cats to shreds before his injury layoff?

As I said, "didn't do much". You selected one standout game, his other 5 games were on par with a number of Dee's players who people call to be dropped every week.

Some may only see that the Pies were under manned, prior to and, during the game. I think they played well, more so in the first half. The fact that we beat them so comprehensively, given that they actually played well, is what I am so impressed by and so optimistic about.

If Smith comes back, forward is definitely his go. I know he's got a great leap, but I wonder if he's a fraction too small to play the second key tall.

Come on AF  he is a tad small for a key of any sorts . We have many better than Smith. We have exhausted the experiment  with him

Not up to AFL standard.   FULL STOP!   Lucky to be on the list. FD got that one wrong.

You can only play the opposition that is in front of you and we played them well.

Now we need consistency for the rest of the year to that standard against all sides.  We played great controlling footy on our terms for most of the match and the results showed.

Preuss was so much better than the last time I saw him play, he's been studying the game and learning.  He's not third in line, but 2nd behind max and tonight showed us that.  Jackson is years away from being a no 1 ruck if ever.

I just like Smith and feel another marking option forward (someone more agile than McDonald) is needed.

This performance does raise questions about how we construct our attack and rucks. Pruess performance l thought was good as was TMac. With max back l would be inclined to still have Max first ruck but rest him down forward along side the Weid, a bit like he plays with Jacko now that he is out for an extended period. I think there is room for Max, Preuss, TMac and Weid in the same team, and when Jacko comes back play him on the ball and on the wing given his mobility. l would drop Tomlinson.
A very powerful lineup on the dry September,/October grounds.....

People who don't know this never played footy at a half decent level. The TEAM is better with him in it - end of story

Absolutely spot on Jako.  You love playing with totally selfless blokes who constantly run so hard to support & cover for teammates.  Tackles, blocks & harasses at every opportunity so the game becomes easier for his teammates.  Is the first bloke to run in and fly the flag if the opposition are roughing up one of ours and if you notice is always eager to get to a teammate and congratulate him.  Far, far from the silkiest player on our list, however, would be by favourite teammate.

Yes their totall possessions and inside 50s were almost the same as us but conversion rate deplorable. Says something about our defence l reckon, plus isn’t it wonderful to kick straight for once.

How 'bout those Demons!

Might be a be a season too early but that's LJ in the not too distant future imv CB.  Might even make it back and get lucky before this one is up.  Stranger things have happened.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
