Nibbler Suspended for 4 Weeks

In all seriousness - I get the protect the head/player thing- what was Nibbler actually meant to do? - he is tackling a bloke who is resisting being tackled and off balance trying to kick while being turned 360+, he can't just let go mid tackle - would be crucified by all and sundry

I don't get that he really had any other choice but to complete the tackle

Tough on Nibbles but it’s something they want to get out of the game*.

*As long as it’s not a star player they’re putting out for 3+ weeks.

Wow. 3 weeks would be absurd, surely. Players get merely twice that for thumping players in the face behind play.

I thought it was a very clumsy and reckless tackle. Looked like his intent was to sling him from the start. He'd be fortunate only to get 3.

Along with AVB reversing the near certain goal on the siren, Nibbler's tackle was one of the dumbest things we can take from the evening.

As for Burgoyne, we'll...

In addition, it was the above first dangerous tackle by Burgoyne that was the genesis of the crackdown on dangerous tackles. The crackdown obviously didn't take that into account for his 2nd dangerous tackle for 2020.

Who can forget the mental gymnastics to get Ablett Jr off, twice in a row?

Not much apart from the fact that Nibber is not a ‘superstar’ so is expendable for their value-signalling.  Not a bog player at a big club so his ticket is already punched.

That it is not a sporting competition. That it is an entertainment experience. "Survivor AFL." "AFL's Got Talent." "Goalkicking With The Stars." "My Midfield Rules."

The integrity and manipulation and favouritism is along the line of any reality show.

For goodness sake...

I understand its the slinging action they're trying to stop but whats he meant to do? Young Hamill still managed to get a kick away

Probably the most succinct statement of where the game is at. Bravo. Yet I can't avert my eyes.

It was definitely  accidental, never had control of the tackle.

Makes my blood boil seeing those Burgoyne tackles. AFL- Now let's make a statement at the tribunal this week. It's like putting the village i@i@t in the stocks so everyone can throw things at him while the privileged ahole rides off to his country estate after causing mayhem.

100% agree on this. It wasn’t an obvious high tackle and I could see why AnB would continue tackling him because Hamill wouldn’t let go of the ball.

It’s complete double standards if Burgoyne gets a slap on the wrist and AnB gets 3+ weeks.

This is the point. No one wants players seriously hurt   but  .., it’s now becoming so complicated rule wise that any form of tackling is in danger of being ruled out

How do we want the game to proceed?

ANB intro to the Tribunal .

Your honour my name is  Ablett    Never done anything wrong   Burgoyne.   Can l go now?

I understand the issue with concussion but IMO the whack Tom Lynch gave to the back of Alex Witherden’s head was much dirtier and more worthy of suspension than ANB’s tackle.

I disagree with you. I've seen the same tackle, it was a case of momentum and an attempt at restraint. ANB has no track record for reckless tackles. And. as you point out, how does Burgoyne, a repeat offender, keep getting away with it. Everything about this SUCKS. Burgoyne's tackle on Dangerfield was much bloody worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
