I've been told it's Melksham

I will be seriously [censored] off if that is the case.

Does not deserve to be stand in captain the way he has gone about his football this year.

Based on the Crows game, I'd be giving it to May.

Hannan straight in for ANB ... No brainer.

Kozzie comes in for AVB.  AVB guts & determination but his footy form is a long way off and another hit to the noggin.  Reckon he needs a spell.  Kozzie also brings a fair bit more pressure i50 and more score involvements.  Plus he gets the rare odd goal as well.   AVB doesn't.

I reckon we gotta cut Harley a wee bit of slack.  He's been out of the game for quite a while as we all know.  He'll need a block of games in his legs to find his core strength and feet.  Normally you could get the yards into him at Casey but that aint happening.  Along with that it'll take him a while to find touch & with that confidence both on and off the ball physically (tackling / general contact).

His time on ground is increasing slowly.  Keep persevering and play him off one wing as the relief player to both Tomo and Ed and i'll reckon we'll see this gem start to work his way somewhere back to his best.  When that happens, Tomo & chunk will struggle to get the game time off him!  Stick fat fellow minions.  Harley is the Rolls Royce we need and will eventually get around the middle and coming inside 50 :pj:

general soreness hopefully & the 4 day break... save him for the following match against the Pies.  While Sparrow isn't Jack (yet) we can cover him off against Norf if required.  Move Melk in to play more time in the middle and earn his keep for a change.  Been accurate but outside of shooting at goal he's been flying under the radar without ball in hand for far too long now imv.

Interesting no Brown for them, so it'll be intriguing to see whether they'll be able to kick a score.

More than the Crows game, he has been a leader all year. If Max and Jack are out I can’t see anyone else who is more qualified.

I think Brown out for them will help them score. Brown has been like when we have tmac up forward. We bomb long to an out of form player who doesn't score. Both are match winners in form but destroy our teams ability to score when off.

So you think that the bottom teams DONT think they can beat us? Let me tell you, from what i have heard from a couple of AFL players, we are barely respected by most teams. Publicly the message might be different, but in private we are still not rated.

The whole footy world thinks we are a flaky side who doesnt like pressure. The fact we have beaten a few bad teams doesnt change that.

Maybe we should just think we won the flag?  Apparently that's what matters.

It'll be interesting to see. It certainly applies to our ability to score, but that's because IMV he gets in the way if Weideman and Jackson. Who's North's Weideman and Jackson combo?

Great call.  He's really impressive IMO . Would sedn a great message about redemption and his importance to the team.

Me too. I reckon he is a real leader. He communicates on field and doesn't like poor discipline.

Easy to forget that May was one of the joint captains at GCS so he has some leadership background.

so, catastrophising...

OUT: viney, gawn, avb, anb, lockhart (all injured, bar anb who will obviously be suspended)
IN: hannan, preuss, jordon, pickett, jetta

B: Jetta - May - Lever
HB: Salem - Tomlinson - Hibberd
C : Langdon - Petracca - Harmes
HF: Melksham - Jackson - Bennell
F: Fritsch - Weideman - Pickett
Foll: Preuss - Oliver - Brayshaw
I/c: Jones - Hannan - Jordon - Sparrow

Why is Vandenberg and Lockhart injured?

Except for Gawn, none of the mooted 'outs' are a structural problem.  Viney out just lets Brayshaw and Harmes spend more time on the ball.  VanDenBerg and Nibbler are not hard to find alternatives for. Lockhart is more specialised but also coverable, especially given Jetta should be fresh.

One of the structural things our game has been missing this year is tackles and pressure inside forward 50.  I'd presume that was the reason for including Nibbler on Wednesday, but he didn't show a whole lot and obviously is now unavailable while he serves Shaun Burgoyne's suspension.

So I'm definitely a fan of getting Pickett in and maybe even Jordan to add a bit of ground-level pressure to create some goals and just make it that little bit harder for opponents to pick and choose how they counterattack.

If we cannot beat North without Max then we truely are a bottom four side. Teams have been beating us regularly with average ruckman. They just shark Max's hit outs.

This might have been covered and I missed it, but does anyone know what time the team is announced?

Cheers ?

think it's 6.25pm this evening

I think the Dees will bring in Tmcd this weekend to give Gawn a break. Then use Jackson as relief ruck with Tmcd playing forward.

This is likely especially if Goldstein’s also managed.  Tom mcd should be fit enough.

If Viney is rested, then surely Harmes and Brayshaw get more midfield time.  I’d also look to bring in Hunt and put him on the wing.  He needs to see what position he can try to get and cement otherwise he’d be looking elsewhere imo.

very hard to reconcile your observation with that facts that:

  • we have lost to 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th
  • we currently sit 12th
  • we have defeated 11th, 13th, 14th and 18th

Hardly incorrect, controversial or disputable. I said:

I thnk every side thinks they can beat Melbourne. Particularly the bottom sides.

Pressure them hard early and they will fold. Its been a recipe for success over the years. The Crows tried it.

Our wins that you refer to prove my point really.

We had a 1pt win against Carlton after leading by 42opints. Really solid victory

Gold Coast were within 3 pts at 3/4 time. Another stirring win

Adelaide were 12pts down at 3/4 time after pushing hard against the Dees all night.

Last year our record against the bottom 9 sides from 2018?

7 losses. 3 wins - Carlton by 5 pts, Gold Coast 1pt and Freo who led for the 1st 3 quarters

We have made a habit of being pushed and/or beaten by bottom sides for over a decade. Its pretty common amongst AFL players that Melbourne are flaky and beatable when pressure is applied. Particularly for interstate sides that play at the MCG that might be their only appearance for the season. The get themselves up and usually push us and often prevail.

If you're hanging your hat on this year's performance good luck. I can see why you use the name Pollyanna

No they won't they will bring in Preuss that's the reason he is on the list. If Viney is injured\rested play the young kid Jordon. Brayshaw will definitely get more midfield time. I think they will stick with Harmes down back.

Cannot agree on Hannah he is our Kent replacement. Way to inconsistent.
Both are good VFL players but just not good enough at senior level.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
