Keep giving us silly soft goals, then when it’s our turn we don’t take full advantage of things. Why did Salem wait for every cats player to get back before kicking it?

And why did Viney, a senior player kick to a pack at CHF with 3 minutes to go.

Love reading these post-game forums after a close loss, the demonlanders never fail to disappoint. :)

yeah it stings but there was a lot to like.

Tmac showed glimpses, kossi looks really dangerous, backline largely performed well, Maxy went off yet again, joel smith wasn't completely putrid, tomlinson was good, harmes and viney battled away all day. clarry and gus were magnets.

put it in perspective, we're watching our favourite team play live at the G. its not like the boys or goody want to lose, we'll be back.

gotta keep the glass half full, onto next week. up the demons!

This is where we differ my friend.

This club is so FRUSTRATING.

We have the players but the coach seems to not be able to get his message through and what is our game plan???????

Imo another yr wasted and next season won’t be much better.

Apart from the 1st quarter in the Carlton game We have been painful to watch.

Fumbly, dumb decisions and no fire.

Clearly need to play  two tall key forwards and make them stretch just like they did to us today.

We are missing another key back. That will leave Lever to intercept the position that suits him best. Oscar and Weid or Brown would have been handy. If THEY ARE NOT INJURED WHY NOT PLAY THEM. It is simple it is called team balance.

Please Goody if you need to,   just call me on 555 55555

Nobody takes any notice of you after you wrote that Joel Smith was disgusting and played the worst game you ever saw against Carlton.  He was good against Carlton, even better today.  This from an athletic player who has hardly played.

Two bog ordinary  football teams  tonite. MFC team delivering more poor footy for MFC supporters yet again. This is tiresome. Groaaaaannnn.  Amongst other things we have to find a big bodied forward or 2, this current set up is not going to take us anywhere.

Brisbane, saints, Nth , suns , Carlton, Ess

Teams who have gone past us since 2019, either our players have lost their talent or perhaps our game plan is flawed..I’d say it comes down to one person... you be the judge!

The fumbles are frustrating.

Simply we aren't good enough to be a contander.

Clean up some issues and we move forward

The fumbles and messing about continue to exist, the strolling out of our forward line with chip kicks was extremely infuriating.

How you can allow that is beyond belief.

Hard to read the garbage! We were in the game throughout. We gave ourselves a chance to win. We were the equal of the Cats, wherever they are ranked. It was a line ball in the final minute. Posters who are keyboard assassins need to take a breath before they post the bile. WE have a very competitive group right here, and the more games they play together the better they will be. Think about how long Ablett, Selwood, Hawkins and Danger have been playing. We are tracking in the right direction. I hate the venom, the knee-jerking and the abuse that the 'supporters' show here. Grow some, and watch the game for what it is worth... a dour struggle that was oh so close!

PS: The absolute morons that keep calling for the coach to be sacked... and have been doing so since Norm Smith... YOU ARE WEAK AS...!!!

I don’t want to sack another coach, but the board signed off on his contract and he needs to be held accountable for the teams performance.  Personally I’m hoping for a Hardwick situation where it all clicks and he comes good.

He needs to change to get us better at:

- forward line entries have/has been disastrous for two years now

- forward pressure needs serious work to lock in the ball and play his chaos ball

- Needs to rotate midfield bulls and some outside class at bounces, not 4 bulls in at once

- Use Macy’s taps to our advantage, we lose momentum when the taps end up in the oppo’s hands

- Learn how to wrangle back momentum when we’re up against it

The players appear to love Goodwin, that’s only a good thing, I’d love to see some enthusiasm in the box, the continuous whites in his eye is getting tiresome.

Great game, very few negatives.

No one could have predicted the result based on previous form and team selections, just bad luck in the end.

And please nobody say anything about Goodwin. He is a great coach and our game plan and team set ups and selections have nothing to do with him.

Playing a prelim in 2018 absolves you for 5 seasons from winning future games because “remember 2018? We were so good. It’s proof everything will be good”.

Uncontested possessions, uncontested marks, why allow them to dictate the tempo all day especially with shorter quarters. So friggin frustrating, it was evident from quarter 1 what their plan was. Is man on man not allowed anymore?

Nicely entrenched in the bottom 4 where we clearly belong.

Our coach is truly a disgrace. I was waiting to see the team selections in action and boy was I right in my suspicious. Jetta for Lockhart, a miss. Played Hannan and AVB and Fritsch and Melksham which just makes no sense.

No second tall forward even tho both Weid and Jackson are fit.
Back line is also a [censored] show. People can have a go at Omac all they like, but he can actually defend. Joel Smith gives us nothing. How many times were we mismatched down back because we didn’t go in tall enough?

I am so disappointed with our game plan and selections. A fully fit list and this is the [censored] we put on the field.

I think you’ve missed the mark with a bit of this. Lockhart was aggressive and excellent defensively. A couple of slip ups with ball in hand but he will stay in. Jetta could come in for Hibberd potentially (got caught without a right foot all game). Agree on the short forward line, did not work. Weid or Brown for VDB. Hannan was an excellent addition though.

Our tall defenders actually did pretty well in the air defensively, Smith included. He also used the ball well. Hawkins killed us on the lead. If OMac comes in (which I support), it should be for Lever who is not able to play his role.

Goodwin can't coach.

Our fwd 50 entries have been atrocious for 5 years. We got lucky in 2018 because we converted the "chaos ball". Still couldn't hit a target.

Our midfield is lazy.  Oliver and Viney hopeless today. Oliver refuses to man up when we don't have the ball and jogs when geelong are transitioning.

Dumb mistakes like manning a goal line, not moving the ball fast enough and 50m penalties for goals when goals were scarce.

Goodwin repeatedly makes the same mistakes and has no answers.

Geeling are a crap side but they had more poise than us at critical times. FFS they didn't even have a proper ruckman and were 1 key defender down all day.

The pre-game discussions were totally derisive about the Demons and laid out exactly how we would get beaten. Lo and behold that's how we got beaten.

You can cuddle your teddy bear and cry yourslef to sleep thinking  it will all magically fix itself but the club will disappear because no one cares other than people on here and a few others.

Zone defence without pressure on ball carriers leaks like a sieve. Standing 10 metres, clear of a direct opponent gave them a paddock to execute their skills. What is wrong with some old fashioned 'man on man' accountable defence? Midifield; Yiney, Brayshaw, Oliver, Harmes et al,  all rallied heroically around the leader in the last 7 'Little Bighorn' minutes. Unfortunately the cavarly charged off the MCG cliff, with some 'fluffed' chances admittedly from difficult positions. We were momentarily having delusions of a younger Salem kicking the winning goal. Not going to can the endeavor though, skills? Rust it appears never sleeps.

We need two small buzzing forwards like Kozzy, so take Hunt out, bring Bedford in and take AVB out for Weid or Brown.

You watch every single team we play this season play this way against us because we are so thick. It took Brayshaw to work it out and apply hard pressure with 2 minutes to go and what do you know we force a turn over and kick a goal.

You reckon Goody will work it out?

Because that's how you beat Melbourne. Lazy footballers that won't chase or pick up players.

Its written on a stone tablet somewhere in the mountains. All the other coaches have read it. Play keepings off. The Dees wont run.

Yep. This is not and never has been about a 2nd tall forward.

This is all about structure and delivery into the forward line.

[censored] and moan all you like about 10m kicks. Geelong just delivered it into their forward line with direct accurate chip kicks.

Wont make a difference who comes in next week when we just keep bombing it in. Even with 60 seconds to go.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
