They have only had 1 game back geez, I think thin ice is a stretch.

The bench speaks for itself.

Not to mention Jones and Hibberd already being dropped in rounds 1 and 2.

Dont be shocked if Lockhart replaces Jetta this week.

Smith should play forward or warm the bench.

"Warm the bench" has become something of an anachronism these days with the constant rotations that we see.

The changes are from Round 2, not Round 3.

And he's not named on the interchange bench.

Why anyone is surprised at Bennell being managed is beyond me.

The surprise is why was he not "managed" last week.

Yes you can say load management but if he was best 22 for the match against Essendon he could have played this week.

A minor chuckle in the continuing saga that is the MFC

Jetta’s form has been poor but he matches up well on Ablett which might save him this week.

You are kidding!! How can a player be selected in a non game and then be dropped?? Nope beggars belief!

On what basis does one week of not playing, and then training be "Managed"??

What has he done or not done to be dropped??

Is anyone else with me here??

All reports suggest the intraclub was played at a strong intensity.

The club may have always known that Bennell was going to need to take a week off from time to time to ensure he doesn't get overloaded.

See above.

I do not understand how this is an issue.

they probably had a plan in place to give Bennell a two game run then a break. just happens one of those games was a makeshift one instead of the real thing, but he would of got the same result out of it. not a big deal imo as Burgess clearly knows what he's doing.

As Brayshaw played all of the interclub match in the 'white' shorts while the selected team played at least half of it in the blue shorts, I wouldn't be surprised to see him dropped.  Hope I'm wrong

I'd assumed he played with the 2s to get a run in the starting midfield.

I thought he played in the 1s in the second half but may be wrong.

Because he played an intraclub match and that was as many minutes as was allocated. People forget his is still 'recovering' and building capacity.

A very minor chuckle in the continuing saga that is people's observations on this forum.

Sorry @Diamond_Jim, he is potentially one of the biggest game breakers we have...it is ASTUTE rehab practice to do this.

Picket when it comes to the MFC...repeat after me (a la 10 Hail Marys)...  "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.  Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.  Hope for the best...."

I think it's possible. I don't recall seeing Brayshaw switch to the "main" team in the intraclub like some others did.

I reckon he'll get one more match to try to impress. There'll be more than a few players who miss out who will be pushing for his spot if he doesn't perform this week.

Not picking a guy who might only play 50% time on ground makes sense, but in that case, not sure why they took the risk in the first game back against Carlton. As everything this year, people are learning on the run. Maybe they thought having an impact player play 50% of the game was a good idea, but since changed their mind, or don't see that as a good idea against an experienced Geelong side.

Bennell, although existing in 2020, is not for 2020, he is for 2021 onwards.

(2020 is a glorified preseason)

i highly recommend the zoom sessions the club is running at the moment. Fantastic intiaitive from the club. I have only missed one so far. The only go for 30 mins but they have been super interesting and informative. The zoom format and having members only really seems to  creat an open and transparent vibe that is relay refreshing compared to the sound bite media pressers.

Anyway Ben Matthews said on Tuesday that Brayshaw was the clear stand out in the intra club game.

Jetta was good against Carlton and will be needed.

Carlton's three tall forwards set up their win against Geelong and yet we persist with Smith in the backline (he's clearly a better forward) and just one genuine tall up forward in McDonald who can't buy a kick or a mark at this stage.

Absolutely laughable... even by MFC standards Bennell dropped from..a side that didn't even play..... A non appearance.VS Essendive!! Garbage selection if he doesn't play.  [censored] MFC CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!??

Managed after one game and a week of ... Something is seriously amiss!

My guess is that his calf (or calves) is (are) playing up again.

The club has said that Bennell was left out as he’s not quite at match fitness and is still being managed.  Fair enough considering he only managed 50% game time in round two.  He’s building.

Yes BUT if that was the case why in the hell did they pick him for the Blues game. Surely he's MORE match fit now than back 2 weeks. Got me beat as I reckon if he plays at 80%  fitness he beats most of our other players.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
