Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

There is nothing wrong with playing a smaller forward line, as Richmond showed in 2017 especially.

The issue is that the delivery to small forwards has to be spot on. Richmond's foot skills are infinitely better than ours, so they were able to find their targets. We have not shown this ability in the past 18 months.

And do or say what?

What do you want an Eddie McGuire is David Koch sideshow?

Throw the toys out of the pram like posters on here

Just wait and let the whole scenario play out

The club was disadvantaged by the incident, but got on with it and arranged,  from what I have been told and seen, a rather willing and extremely useful from a coaching point of view, practice match

Maybe if some of the perpetual whingers and whiners actually set an example of standing up for the Club, instead of bashing it at every opportunity.....well that would be a first

Why do i have to have the same opinion as you?

Why are you always “right” Satyr??

Not a word from the President yet, I expected more. That is all i have to say.

I am not putting any words in his mouth

I want to hear what Bartlett plans to do

Our next opponent should be Essendrug and i would be fighting hard for that

You probably think Hunt is better than  Lyon,  Neitz, Schwarz and Jakovich.

Remember when you insulted them the other day?   Four legends of the MFC

I'm really liking the look of young James Jordan.  A few people last season thought he was showing a bit, and right now it looks like they were right.  He's harder than you expect, a good ball-user and has that bit of poise where he manages to find time.  He could turn out to be  a very nice surprise packet.

He's a good prospect. He was very young when drafted, being right near the cut off and coming into the club as a 17 year old. He likely would've been a first rounder in last years draft had he missed that cut off.

He could become a good midfielder or half back flanker due to his accurate and penetrating kick, burst of pace and toughness. He's well suited to half back flank but has actually excelled playing more inside midfield at Casey. I reckon he could become a well rounded inside/outside midfielder, which we need IMO. Both him and Sparrow from that draft are developing well, Sparrow more of a Viney type insider, Jordan a more rounded midfielder like a Bernie Vince.

i want The MFC President and CEO to stand up for our Club.

But I also know that standing up for our club doesn't have to be done in public view.

Yes it does. That is the point

Not enough is done on behalf of our club, in situations like this in Public.

Public Sentiment can be very useful

For too long The MFC has sat quietly in the corner and taken the scraps

I don’t agree that not grandstanding equates with taking the scraps.
AFL is trying to act responsibly re-CoVID in the public’s health interests and run a big business footy competition during a pandemic...

should one club (Dons) be penalised for having to assist the AFL do its public health duty..? Is debatable.

should the MFC be publicly seeking free wins from the Dons ill fortune? It me such a stance smacks of weakness and doubts that we can be successful without such handouts...

How about we accept we all have to be flexible during CoVID and focus on beating Geelong this week and the Dons whenever the game is rescheduled to be played?
There’s a flag to be won this year, and winning it with some handout due to the Dons misfortune would diminish it. Winning it despite the challenges we’ve been dealt, would make it truely glorious...

Whats wrong with the game plan, and what would you like it to be changed to and why would it be better?

An obvious with the game plan is we are not able to shut a side down when they kick back to back goals, All the other teams are aware of this weakness and exploit it. We keep hearing from Club and players we are as good as anyone at our best. Sometinmes that should mean halving a contest rather than going for broke every time.

A grand total of 0  goals combined for Weid and T Mac.  Horrible.

We will need to go shopping for a legitimate key forward next trade period.

maybe we are structuring this way, to suit our small forwards scoring.  With sometimes only one tall forward, and TMc has built up massively,  upper body,  and is solid in upper legs.

I think this is a current phase the AFL is going thru currently. And we recruited a really athletic mobile ruck, a running back, and small forwards last year.  To back up this concept. As well as TMc's current size.

Blame Richmond 2018

Yes, they didn't kick any goals, but are we really going to call TMac/Weideman "horrible" for what we could see of them in a 6-minute highlight clip of an intraclub match?

From the little I saw when searching for Weide,  he was always circulating deep,   whilst the ball was being delivered thru lowered eyes to players around the 40 to 50Mtr areas in front of goal.

It almost appears like Weide was keeping the top defender away from where the ball was going.?

I'm not calling for the 4 points as a freebie.

I just think it is unfair for us to penalised with shorter breaks between games which potentially will impact us across 3 (or more) matches. Match prior to the rescheduled Essendon match, the rescheduled Essendon match and the match (even matches) after the rescheduled Essendon match. We'll have to adjust loads during matches and training. How can that not have an impact on us when other teams won't have that same issue. I don't care about the impact on Essendon as they are the ones who are responsible.

I'm not even proposing to play a  depleted Essendon this week or mid week as a further Freebie (we all know how we fair against depleted Essendon teams).

If a team can't field a team then they forfeit. Case closed.

It equates to grandstanding because it’s premature, I’ll-considered and about attention seeking over reasoned thought and discussion.

Reality is the Dons are on verge of having their season killed, one way or another. And while I have a wry smile about this outcome, I’ve no desire for the MFC to be seen to be publicly dancing on their graves, as in the context of life/death CoVID... it’s an ugly look.

Premature?

No it isn’t. Our game yesterday did not go ahead, if that happens I expect the President of my Club to speak about it.

How many other Presidents of AFL Clubs would you expect to remain silent in the reverse situation?

From the looks of the pictures on the club web site, it looks like the boys spent some time doing goal kicking practice out on the MCG.  Hoping that pays off.  In particular Freitch needs to improve on his Rd.2 output in this area.  We could have comfortably taken care of Carlton if he had kicked for goal more reliably.

One positive is that a practice match on a ground where actual games are played may be more meaningful to the players than running around in Casey.  Seems so to me, but who knows.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
