This seasonĀ sucks.. Carlton and Collingwood going to get benefit of playing Essendon without 8 of their best side.. we miss out on a game after resumption of 1 week and then will likely have to squeeze 2 game sin a week at some stage.Ā

Now watch us get injuries in an intra club.Ā

Season is a train wreck with less & less integrity as each week goes by. Essendon mayĀ not be able to play 6 of their best next week,Ā teams in hubs are struggling. So not sure how anyone winning a flag is truly worthy this year.Ā

Feel so cheated by this season.Ā  We finally get a full uninjured and super fit team team out on the park and then the season turns to total ssshiiit like this around us.

It wasn't like I thought we were a certainty for the flag, but was keen that we at least put on a good show, somewhat atoned for last season and got the team back on track.

Just really hope that we make the most of this as some kind of development year to set-up in the best was possible for next year, something like what Collingwood did in 2017.Ā  Doesn't need to be pretty every week, so long as it is all building to something.

Love your positivity but reckon our game plan is flawed, over invested in 2 defenders, not much up front, coach is questionable. Hope I’m wrong but that’s my gut feeling.Ā

Our next opponent should be Essendrug next week, why should other teams get the full benefits of a compromised situation, whilst we are totally disadvantagedĀ

Fix it up AFL. You pay yourselves enough

no different to the player who puts another player out of the game and is suspended for four weeks...

Who benefits... the teams in the next four weeks

It’s massively differentĀ

WE DON’T GET TO EVEN PLAY

so are disadvantaged for the following week as well, to say nothing of when the bogus games is made up Ā that will also disadvantage the following opponentĀ

Our hierarchy needsĀ to speak up for a change, 1st we play a game in Western Australia after the seasons been called off & expected to compete, now the drug cheats pull this on us & we sit there & say oh well.

Weve done nothing wrong & have been compromised 2 out of 3 games so far and will later in the season have toĀ play 2 games in a weekĀ

The AFL hasn’t even mentioned us, because they no we will be as quiet as a mouse about it.

Could you imagine what Eddie or Jeff Kennett would be saying

Typical game day thread.... nobody ever mentions the score.

Are we even winning ????????

Up at the bar?

I heard two things. The first is that Max was going to stay in the rooms so he doesn't miss singing the song. The second is a lot of general disquiet about Hubs......

JUst hope we don't kick a point first up .......and there is no Full-Back to kick it back in.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  But I suppose we would win by 1 point......Yeeeeeh !!!!

Ch 7 just had a live post match. Sounds like Max and the players we’re frustrated by what has happened but enjoyed a competitive hit out today and everyone got throughĀ

Gawn says we put our best 18 on one side to begin with but then shuffled jumpers midway.

Also mentioned Jones played - I'm increasingly confident the line about him carrying injuries through training was rubbish and was just designed to soften the blow around him being dropped.

Mahoney: We had 40 players out there today so it was a really competitive session.

Mahoney: I think it’s pretty clear what the players can + can’t do at the moment. The restrictions are there for a reason + this is exactly why.

Mahoney: There’s a bit of shock + frustration when the boys are ready for the Essendon game, but you have to move on quickly.

Mahoney: There are going to be a number of challenges this season + the team that responds best from those challenges will come out on top.

Gawn: It was nice + hot. The umpires had to step in a few times to tell us it was just a practice match. We had normal umps + it was just like a normal game.

Gawn: It was probably the strongest 18 on one team to start with, then the jumpers got thrown around a bit.

Gawn: I know that Nathan (Jones) will play a lot of good footy this year. He was good out there today + I’m confident he’ll come back strong. I gave him a ring straight after the news (being omitted) + he said, ā€œIt’s alright, I’ll be back next week.ā€

Gawn: A lot of sports play multiple times a week + our fitness guru Darren Burgess will get us in a shape to do so. I’m looking forward to that challenge.

Gawn: We all knew when the AFL season got up + going that this could happen at some point. I was very frustrated at about 4pm yesterday, but it is what it is. I prefer playing games to training, so I’m looking forward to an extra game at some point.

Gawn: There’s a bit going on in footy - I’m sure everyone’s struggling with their tips.

Is the game plan flawed or is it thatĀ the execution of the game plan isĀ  flawed or maybe a bit of both?

2018 everyone said we were too much about attack, but leaked goals.Ā  Have we over correct in that respect personal wise?Ā  Maybe, but then we went to the draft and picked up Kosi and Jackson.

We also dominated contested ball, but lacked outside finish - hence Langdon,Ā Tomlinson and to some extent Kosi and Bennell.

Until we win the flag, its always a work in progress.Ā  The way I see it is that 2020 is a chance for us to get the systems, personal and ballance right going forward.

To truely develop something which stacks up, we need to be playing against real opposition, which is one of the reasons I'm so [censored] about us not playing the Bombers today.Ā  But that said, there are probably also some advantages to in playing a game against yourself in terms of being able to teach and manipulate the game more, so I just hope we make the best of what we have been left with.

Ā

Brilliant to be training on the G.Ā  Could someone explain the history of why we are not training there all the time and why we cannotĀ  make a case for it. I have always got the fact other Clubs play home games there, but not thee MFC no training aspect.Ā

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeatĀ  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
