Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/early-christmas-present-mcg-tenant-clubs-get-multi-million-dollar-windfall-20200603-p54z7j.html

Collingwood, Melbourne, Richmond, Hawthorn, Carlton and Essendon will each receive home game payments estimated at between $150,000 and $200,000 per match for the remainder of the shortened season.

And there are people on here who want to cut ties with The MCC.

We need to remain Strong ?

The league provides equalisation payments!

However when you look how the teams with larger supporter numbers get preferential treatment from the AFLthrough Matches televised, blockbusters, on top of the natural advantage they have through supporter numbers, so larger crowds and sponsorships  the equalisation funds provided aren’t anywhere sufficient to provide a level playing field.

You need two decades of success to jump from where Melbourne is today to being a power club!!

We were Top of the Pile

We only have ourselves to blame

10 Years of winning serious games would change things drastically

It seems the Mcc are starting to hear,  our complaints and our criticisms of them... and it's about time they did,  instead of fleecing our footy code.

Now watch the AFL give us only 3 or 4 home games at the 'G, while gifting the other clubs 10 games each.

Leaving aside the money factor we don’t play well at the G, I would rather play elsewhere our game plan doesn’t suit the G it is too big for our bomb it into the forward line.

Spot on SWYL if you continually finish in the bottom half dozen of the ladder you get the corresponding games.

Sure. You cannot knock the AFL for that attitude

It is The MFC that has to improve itself

Richmond had a very poor record of playing finals until recently....

Totally agree. The AFL is supposed to be an equalized competition where clubs have an opportunity to win the competition, whether it be through draft picks, fixturing or other.
But over the last 2 decades the teams at the top and been there abouts each and every year. I know we have not taken our opportunity, but should the club be financially crippled by poor fixturing because it couldn’t develop players?

society isn't declining because of late stage capitalism. Market economies are perhaps at historically their strongest ever (with more slowly transitioning out of mass poverty every day).

let's not give a free pass to the degeneration public discourse; the obscene nature modern "progressive" politics; and the amplification of fractured nationalism. I don't think any of those are a result of capitaliam.

Interesting you would be critical of capitalism, though, given Melbourne's biggest problem over the past 5 decades has arguably been both its lack of market competitiveness and its inept business tact. Decades of handouts and -- surprise surprise -- we're still garbage.

How shockingly dense and weirdly confident the club was to ditch a known (and legal) revenue generator, all for the sake of some feel good "woke" PR.

But hey I guess our "morality" is in check. Right alongside our $10 million debt and few (strong) assets to ride the bump.

We don’t have a 10 million debt - 2 but effectively + 8 after sale of Leighoak what have you ever done for the Club - apart from bagging it at least get the numbers right tratior

The reality is that we will not be able to challenge the power clubs for many years. It would require 10-20 years of success.

The aim over the next five years should be to break out of the bottom bracket and move into the next bracket. The immediate goal should be to equal if not move ahead of Carlton and the Bulldogs both on and off field. I'm not sure we have the Board or the coach to achieve this but for once we do have the players. By pursuing a training ground etc in the Jolimont park precinct demonstrated that the Board lacked knowledge of realities. If we had adopted the Gosch's Paddock initiative three years ago it would be well in progress now if not completed.

Coaching.... well we all know that story

Complete nonsense PJ was on the front page re Jolimont Board/exec will deliver just has it has done with list mgt yes and Coaching Roos succession plan Goodwin top 4 one year drop off and we all dive for the bottom led by you well played btw have you asked the board or gone to an AGM and asked the question or do you just make this stuff up?

Currently there are 18 teams and 22 games in the home and away season played over 23 weeks (based on 2019 season)

Compare this to Premier League where 20 teams play 38 games over about 40 weeks (also with other competitions in between)

If we stick with 18 teams, why not shorten games to approx. 90 minutes and play 36 games per season over a longer season with a bye round in the middle. That way all teams play each other twice and more opportunity to share the blockbusters etc. Push finals later into October and the cricket can wait!

Don’t disagree the integrity of the draw plus the finishing positions of the final eight can dramatically favour teams who play more bottom 10 teams to the point of earning a double chance plus hosting a home final. They will never play each other twice, but I believe you play each other once then the final eight play each other again which would finalise the positions and bring integrity. This would mean a 24 round season so an extra 2 games. The bottom 10 teams could possibly play a round robin for either draft picks or prize money.

Yes i know that. But they have had a lot more success than us since ‘65

They ruled the TV in the 70’s

Makes a huge difference

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
