The Virus, DeeLanders and looking after each other

It's maudlin, but it's true. If this kicks off like it has in Europe, this will be the last season of footy for some DeeLanders. Forced retirement, not 4 to 6.

I'm not quite sure what we can do to look after each other; we share a love for this Club and have endured together through so much [censored]. I saw a flag in '64, but I'm not sure my son will. It might just be worth checking in on each other once in a while. If you get crook, you might like to let DL know. We are, as they say, all in this together, and the odd (queue @Bitter but optimistic) message might lift the spirits.

This isn't a drill. Stay safe. Stay at home.

Go Dees.

Yes please stay safe each and every one of you?

If your feeling alone or down, come on here and talk to us, plesae know we are in this togther and we will get through this togther?

It was a bit of a downer today in that we lost, but things can and will get better, and maybe soon we can get back to watching our side again.

I just caught myself thinking of our odd little community as being like the people you've been sitting in the same seats near for years.

Don't even have to like each other,  might often be annoyed by our manners or vehemently disagree on something, but still, there's a certain sense of shared experience and humanity.

Everyone look after yourselves and each other.  The virus is an awful thing but you can shunt the odds a bit in your favour, and a bit in society's favour, by doing all the little things. 1%ers, n'all that jazz.

Take care everyone, gotta be fresh for when the season restarts, and plenty more seasons to come.

Well said, Frankie.

Weird as we are, we're a mob.

And like Moonshadow said, stay home. Physical isolation doesn't have to mean social isolation. And tell the bludgers you see out there to keep their distance. My wife is a nurse in an Emergency Department - we were rapt to see they've closed the pubs and clubs - they're putting her life at risk just so they can get smashed.

Wonder if we could have a 'Demonland Classic Games - Recalled'.

YouTube a classic MFC game and have some of the resident personalities do the commentary?

I'm imagining WhisperingJack giving an indepth pre-game analysis, DeeSpencer not taking a breath while talking tactics for 12 minutes straight, SWYL and OldDee calling the 64 flag with those voices of the nasal olden style voiceover guys, GeorgeOnTheOuter telling everyone to straighten up and get the commentary back on track, DazzleDavey getting in about 4 words out of every 20 past the censors etc etc.

I was thinking of doing this in lieu of the podcast. Watching Classic Demons Games and then doing the podcast based on that game.

Not sure how many full games are on YouTube. Some finals. I guess. Might work, might not.

Great idea, especially as it's an opportunity for some of the younger guys on here to see or hear about some classics from back in the day. Nothing like a good first hand account!

Brilliant idea (thread and classic games). I suggest someone write to Fox Footy to suggest they do a fixture and get some of their commentators to do a fresh track. Most people wont remember who won if they are old enough so it could be quite good.

I was only 15 months old when we stole the last flag, so i am sure Old Dee has far better recollections than i

i have great memories of the 70’s onwards, excluding a few years after the Fitzroy massacre when i lost interest.

I had started a very similar thread the other day. And then didn't hit send for whatever reason.

I'm not okay right now. A million difficult things are all converging at once.

So please ignore any bizarre posts or tetchy responses etc. I will be okay though.

And I'm all ears for whoever wants to chat. Probably better at dealing with other peoples issues than my own.

It at least provides a distraction. But I will also be open and frank in regards to myself.

For better or worse, this is the community I'm probably most actively involved with.

Best wishes to everyone,

Ronnie.

Best message EVER on Demonland.

Although we do have disagreements on this site I have come to respect all by virtue that we all want for but one thing.. A long overdue Premiership!

Other than that I hope all on this site look after Family, Friends and offer any emotional support we can to all on this and other social media sites!

I would give my left gonad to get a full copy of the last game at Footscray in 1987!!!!

I have the last half but that's it!!

You'd maybe excel at commentating some of the off field activities anyway! Get a SWYL merger special going or something.

Deep Purple ( Yes I know all about Smoke on the water) and yes they are still going into there mid 70ts have a New Album ready to go called WHOOSH!!

Hauntingly, the VIDEO single taken of the Album is quite staggering given the challenging nature of the planet at this time

I urge Demonlanders to check it out on You Tube

The single is called

THROW MY BONES

I would be interested in your comments!! Demonlanders!

Quality thread idea.

So my flight to Bangkok got cancelled. I was due to go there on April 6 to my wifes home in rural Thailand. We have been married for 7 years, but i havent seen her since early July last year. Now it looks like its going to be somewhere around 18 months by the time i see her again face to face. Sent emails today to Thai Airways and also for the internal flights airline in the hope of a refund. Cant cancel my leave as the roster is already full. Cant fly to the Brothers place in QLD either as i would be lucky to get there, and almost certain not to get a flight home.. My gym is now closed so i cant go there either.

So i called work and told them i am happy to cover any shifts i can during my annual leave if our nurses need extra time off to care for their kids who now have no school to attend. There WILL be some who have to take extra time off now that School isnt an option for the ruggies.

Easy to feel sorry for myself, and i did have my moments.

Then i remember that my job as a Nurse makes me safe from the threat of job loss. I am even in the position that i could tell my daughter not to worry herself sick about losing her job at Bunnings as i can cover her mortgage until she gets some income.

Sure, im also in an industry where my risk of catching "The bug" is fairly high, and i do have a health condition that makes my risk of death from it almost 15%, but hey, it could be much worse. As long as i dont infect my 79-80 Yo. parents with something i bought home from work, it should be ok. Will feel pretty rubbish if i bring home the bug that kills them.

So yeah, its crap that i cant see the Wife for ages. What can you do.

I feel a lot less sorry for myself when i see the lines at Centerlink on todays news.So many people losing their jobs with 10's or even 100's of thousands of others still to lose theirs.

Be nice to your neighbors and dont abuse the poor checkout chick for the 1 pack pasta limit. Its not her fault.

Stay classy and look after each other in whatever way you can.

Well played LN, I'm happy to throw in a few expletives just to get the crowd on the edge.

Unfortunately I will be signing out of here for a while now while footy is off limits. I have too much going on in my personal life that's taking a real toll on me, and i need to now focus on my young family and extended who are battling right at this minute.

Let's all try and be kind to each other, the world is in pain right now and we need to do the right thing and take care of our love ones.

To many who I have had heated exchange over the journey, i do apologise, especially you @Satyriconhome you crazy old ba stard ? don't take it personally, we're all passionate about the greatest team ever.

Much love demonland family, see you all when the footy starts!

Maybe,  dee  'Dennis Cometti',  could do a call of some of the  87'  games,  on the Demonland podcast.

Stay well Ronnie.  This is the dreaded   'time of troubles'... we are in atmo.  It's written of.

It will pass, eventually,  and things will shine a lot brighter.

These are meant to be,  testing times.

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin
