Now that Collingwood have been reduced to their constituent parts so to speak I realise that it's their fan base and Eddie that makes me loath them, not so much the guys running around in black & white stripes.

That's okay Rab. Any reason is good enough to hate C'wood. You don't need to justify it. It doesn't even have to make sense. Just make sure you hate them, and all is well.

Perhaps the AFL should add the wall of sound one hears in big international soccer games. Like the constant drone and blaring trumpets and other noisome instruments? They can add big cheers when a goal is scored.

You're right. I'm overthinking it.

Nope - flicked on to the racing channel, had dinner with a few mates, and watched a few minutes from time to time. Maybe it’s the lack of a crowd but never been so underwhelmed by the start of a season. Hope our game vs Eagles is better.

Hearing that the pies won’t be singing the song is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. By all means don’t lock arms (even though you’ve been doing it all night anyway with tackling) but for crying out loud every stand around and sing the bloody song.

If the Dees win on Sunday and don’t sing the song I’ll be filthy.

EDIT they sung it after all ?‍♂️

Same, Spalding, we’ve all had a few distractions the last few weeks, understandable really.

What a complete joke. There is still tackling and body contact in this sport ( although no where hard enough for what we have been used to ) but when they kick a goal they elbow tap one another and after the game they lightly tapped one another with fists. Am I seeing things here ? What an absolute f#^%@$g joke. Monty pythom could not have scripted anything like this.

Some great meltdowns on the Doggies forum.

For anyone thinking they arent going to get into the AFL this season due to the current corona climate ,  just wait til our boys are out there on Sunday. Thats when the season really begins.

The Bulldogs were scared of their own shadows tonight. The coaching team will have some horrific footage to sort through post game.

Pies were ok. Grundy was a mountain, and others did some ok things but I wan't blown away by them either, as their opponent was abysmal.

They are probably requested to do that, and it’s probably just as much about sending a message of responsible contact to viewers, as it is for their own benefit.

Yes it appeared the Doggies listened to much to the pre season hype on them and just thought turning up would be enough. Need to turn that lack of aggression around real quick.

I know this is swearing in church, but I rate Buckley, he has definitely brought on some players. Supporters are also appalling, but that said I hate Weagle, Crow and Essendon (in that order) supporters more... what to do...

so far, i don't mind the lack of crowd noise; muting the dreadful commentary from the ch 7 crew would help raise enjoyment levels, but i'm enjoying hearing the 'sounds of the game' sans audience participation

thought the dogs would be far, far better than that - they completely looked incapable of winning contested footy, not what i expected at all

they're going to have to do well to recover their season - in what's already a truncated year that is likely to be further reduced, that's the sort of hammering you really can't afford to have

grundy showed once again why he's the second best ruckman in the game; bad kicking is bad football :P

Blues had 4 first round picks run out tonight.... f k me!

Im watching the league already.

Do you mean four number 1 picks?  I still find it hilarious that the blues have four on their list and another they traded away, but people still think WE got too many top picks.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
