Congratulations

And you wonder why you get slapped around.

great football weather for all our practice matches and our first round is Sunday afternoon in WA in the heat .... typical MFC luck

Love the heat.

Its highly disappointing that a positive post game thread is again ruined by the same trolls once again.

Do many positives to come out of last night, our fitness stood out which is pleasing. My only concern that our tall forwards were unsighted. I think Brown has to play round 1. He adds something different down there.

Hibbo is getting on. He was poor last night whichever you look at it. I can see him phasing out to Casey like Bernie Vince did in his last year.

They didn't talk about it a whole lot on the broadcast, but I've seen a few people mention the conditions were trickier than what they seemed on TV. Fair wind and quite slippery apparently. None of the tall forwards for either side did much, so I'm hoping it was a factor a little bit. TMac has looked very hot and cold in the two games so far, but he seems to be the type that can find form instantly and then he's on a roll. Not totally sure on Brown yet. I know he kicked those goals against Adelaide, but they were mostly a bit lucky IMO. Given he didn't play yesterday my impression is he might be insurance for injuries/form rather than a starter straight up.

Actually didn't totally hate Pig's game. His use was pretty poor, but in general I thought he improved a bit from the first game. Agree it's an interesting year for him where he could play a few out at Casey though, especially with Harmes slotting in and Salem to come back.

Spargo, Lockhart and Bedford are the intriguing ones for me. All 3 are probably 2nd/3rd in line for their positions from a list perspective, but they're all showing some really good signs now. Thought ANB was good yesterday too DD, I know he's one you watch closely.

Re the conditions, my son who is a Hawks supporter ( don't ask ) says the games at Launceston for  some reason are always low scoring scrappy affairs.

O.Mac isn't offensive enough and considering Jetta isn't great offensively I don't want too many who don't attack, but if Lever struggles at CHB then he probably comes in straight away.

I understand that point of view and agree he is not offensive but he worked well with the others and is really operating from the last line. I think his presence allows May to play more offensively.

Solid performance by the lads but let's not get carried away.

Really impressed with Lockart & Fritta with Bedford showing some promise.....Tomlinson & Langdon played how you'd expect 5 year players plus to play. (Hopefully they can sustain that level throughout the season)

Backline looked ok, however, coming up against one of the quickest & exciting forward lines in round 1 will test them.

Good position to be in going into the season.

I have more hope for Hibbo. He got the ball a lot and was in the right positions, just needs to adjust to 30-40 kicks rather than blazing away which I think he can do. He is also fitter than last year.

Just low on intensity for the practice match.

Totally, a veteran like him just would be. At this point in his career he would approach a practice match with more than a degree of indifference, and I would not blame him for one second. Same with Jetta.

Let's see how these guys play when it actually matters, because let's be honest, these games don't mean a thing.

Can't believe the media is creating a bit of a frenzy over Viney's 'risky sling tackle' on Stratton.  Stratton's shoulder hit the ground first, he got straight up and the umpire who was right there didn't even pay a free!

Must be a no-news day but I bet it will be played over and over this weekend and someone will demand the MRO penalises Viney under the apparent 'new' sling tackle rules.  Wouldn't put it past the MRO to look like he is doing something, penalise Viney and proceed to ignore similar or worse tackles for the rest of the year.  Shades of May last year...

They  carried on about it last night...

The AFL to date only give weeks based on outcome not action. The outcome was all clear.

...but it's just like them to decide to switch it now.

If they do then should they back date the Crouch decision and a few others over the Marsh series?

Struggling to understand the Hibberd hate. Strange really, perhaps some aren’t watching the game properly.

Pretty sloppy and boring footy on the whole (pre-season, makes sense) and nothing to suggest either side should be flag favourites HOWEVER;

- our wing-recruits seemed to do the job they were brought In to to do

- Jackson showed some. He has extremely long and sticky fingers in ruck contests. Will be a proper tap ruckman as well as a second-effort ruckman one day which will be dangerous

- Geeze we looked different up forward when we moved it in quickly on the rebound. Beginning to understand why they’re tinkering around with the half backs (on top of recruiting new wings)

- Petracca looks 48% smarter than previous years (on top of improved fitness). His footy IQ was never obvious but he did some really smart things tonight.

- Best game from Viney in 18 months

Have you been supporting MFC, and watched Melbourne Games, for longer than you have been a member of Demonland, because what you have said i find to be insulting to several of our players whether you have or have not.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
