they were talking about this on the commentary

even jono brown said 'well they didn't have 20-odd off-season surgeries; in fact they didn't have one, so that's a good start'

ย

What Rubbish. Did the Bears win a Final last year

They should have, but they blew both games and went out in straight sets

Garbage reportingย

how lovely is our press... "doing a Melbourne" and the "worst team ever" in one day. Our sponsors must be over the moon.

Meh, I donโ€™t find Faganโ€™s comments bad, certainly donโ€™t see them as having a dig at us. He was most probablyย asked leading questions about comparisons to Melbourneโ€™s rise to play finals, then about our fall to 17th and is he worried about the Lions dropping as far as we did etc? Fagan statedย himself that Melbourne had a lot of injuries and that may have led to our bad season. If he wanted to have a shot at us he couldโ€™ve mentioned what has already been stated by our own club, that our players came back in less then ideal shape and attitude etc.

They lost to the two grand finalists after finishingย 2nd after a decade out of finals.ย Nothing unceremonious about that.

We shouldve done a Brisbane by beating the Saints or Swans at the G and getting a top 4 final against Richmond.

In hindsight yes. They finished the H & A in second and had the coveted home advantage. I was being a little facetious protecting the honour of our club.ย

Why is the comparison so obvious according to Mitch? Not pulling a Bulldogs, not an Adelaide, no itโ€™s definitely Melbourne.ย

Onlyย remote similarity is being out of the finals so long.ย

And that is the main reason for last year, Brown knows that and so do the rest of the media, pity that most of them didn't acknowledge it.

If you you know Melbourne like we do then....

Excellent observation by Brown. Garbage comment by Fagan from whom I expected more. Should have qualified his statement at the time, thus rendering it meaningless

I did find this headline a bit disrespectful to our club who had, as its been pointed out, a much better finals campaign than Brisbane did.

This is why i have stopped watching news reports on the tv as well as not buying both major papers.

They love having a go at our club in a negative way, any chance they get.???

Doing a Melbourne hey......................................given their injury list is nothing compared to what ours was at the beginning of last year, and throw in with the fact they did not even win a final, it's incomparable.

Gee some supporters are a bit precious. How about worrying about a starting a new 'Melbourne' in consistently making finals instead getting offended by the notion we had a disappointing year last year?

I like the negative chit chat around the league, against us.ย  Its all fuel for the Demon's pyre.ย  We'll make collections whilst doing our rounds. especially with AVB & vINEY freed up.

Too bad they didn't 'do a Melbourne' and win 2 finals.

Out in straight sets they went. A nothing club.

I watched their nothing club win 3 flags in a row.
If only our nothing club could produce something similar.

True. Not sure they'll be buying the "any publicity is good publicity line."

It never fails to surprise me how defensive we get about external criticism of the club.ย  Without doubt, the post-2018 season preparation was poor.ย  Those that weren't undergoing surgery, should have had it explained to them individually how important it was that they improved their fitness levels to provide some coverage for those coming back late and what the consequences would be if they didn''t.ย  It would seem that in at least one of the cases (Stephen May), that didn't happen so I am assuming the same in other cases.ย  And also Burgess recently commented on how much higher the workloads are this year.ย  It reminded me of 2002.ย  To drop from 4th to 17th was pathetic.ย

On the other hand, what a great start to 2020 on Saturday.ย  Normally my optimism is challenged a bit after the first game of a pre-season but we looked great.......and we outlasted them.ย  Admittedly, it was only the Crows but how long has it been that we could say something disparaging like that and mean it.ย  I haven't been able to occupy my seat at home games for a few years but I am pretty happy to be back in Melbourne for a couple of months from early April and able to get along to training as well.ย  Happy days!

I'll go backย to 2001.
Grand finalists to 11th.

Our history is littered with pathetic.
And it does my head in.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
