It’s definitely a step in the right direction, but until we have concrete agreements on how this is going to pay for itself, i won’t be opening the Single Malt Whiskey 🥃 ….

I just opened a bottle of Chivas Regal to go with the BBQ, unfortunately the barbie is firing up a bit.😳😳

How’s this for an interesting take - I’ve seen suggestions in various social media reports that MRC are looking at funding this through potentially selling Sandown Racetrack. If that’s the case, would Melbourne need to raise a huge amount?

That is for another component of redeveloping Caulfield Racecourse, proposed new grandstand, new mounting yards etc has nothing to do with redeveloping the reserve inside the track where MFC ovals would be located.

Nothing to do with us. It’s for their own development at the track.

Hope not

That is "future fund" money. Use the income but not the capital.

Frankly we should have been raising money for the training ground for years.

Of the $113M being spent by the Hawks various governments are putting up $30M ($15M from each of State and Federal)

How much money has been given to Geelong from both Federal & State governments to build "Taxpayer Park". Not sure how much they provided but there was talk of around 300m. I'm sure someone will be able to access figures to verify.

Inability to obtain both Federal and State funding has been / is an issue as well. Final costs far closer to the $120million mark, Dees have to come up with 25%.

Fundraising initiatives to be announced soon. Expect another Debt Demolition / Foundation Legend and Heroes event to be run.

You can bet Peter Lawrence won’t be donating

Thanks @goodwindees ur info was spot on about an announcement today.

God there is no pleasing some posters here. We get some news that our potential home quarters is progressing and some of u are carrying on that u thought it would be more advanced, yet if nothing is said the same posters still bloody carry on about the lack of progress.

FFS it’s not a 2 min process and there are stages that we need to go through to get this project completed. Yes it has taken a long time overall looking for a home base, but bloody hell a bit of positive news is better than nothing.

Is it good news or is it chicken feed to appease the masses?

They said we should have an outcome on the business case by mid-2025, let's see what they have to tell us come next June.

I find the negativity about this bizarre. We finally have some concrete plans, and things appear to be moving in the right direction. I am not a fan of Caulfield, but if that is the position the clubs takes then I will embrace it. Just give us a home already.
Notably the Lawrence fans are still not happy. Can’t campaign on that one anymore hey?

What concrete plans?

So that's $20-25mill from the $32mill(?) sale of the Bentleigh Club? Of course, we'd have hopefully generated significant return on that from speculation in financial markets and interest, but that's a large amount to sink into the project, I'm sure it can't he helped though and the Caulfield asset gain will outstrip holding the Bentleigh Club.

We should never have gotten rid of the pokies.

Don't worry - Sideshow Bob has it sorted as the face of our new Burger joint McDemons to open on the corner of Neerim and Booran Rd.

Just need to a big enough drive through to service a gazillion burgers at $35 each - each one comes with a toy Petracca or Clarry

Surely there's no copyright infringement going on there 😳

So what's the next step after the business case is made? Will the business case unlock the funding or is that a seperate step that needs to be taken? Do we then need to find an architect and a builder? Then the building can begin once those plans have been completed?

Generally after the business case is developed the permit process begins. This could slow things down. Theoretically funding could be secured after the business case, just won't be 'shovel ready'.

The Caulfield announcement creates more than one opportunity but not only for Melbourne. Just as importantly it gifts Casey a first class sporting hub and the opportunity for the reestablishment of the Casey Scorpions, while at the same time, allowing Melbourne to compete in the VFL as the Melbourne Demons. I am sure that having a reserve team, coupled with the more popular location (c.f. Casey) will substantially improve Club morale.

very unlikely i think

we have a long term agreement to partner with casey

plus the advantage of having caulfield and casey is two elite facilities, not one

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
