MRC couldn’t care less, they will be just another tenant.

The MFC has been negotiating with the Save Caulfield racetrack group.

Attached are some minutes from the last failed meeting.

mfc meeting notes.docx 138.93 kB · 24 downloads

Just had a look at the Save Our Caulfield Racecourse Reserve facebook group and they have a total of 59 followers in an LGA of more than 150k residents. This is clearly a case of small number of people who are convinced they are fighting for what is right while they simply want revenge on society for whatever reason. Rather than use logic and reason we should find a way for them to redirect their anger at Bruz and let go of their ideology.

There are a number of different community groups invested in the outcome.

Facebook likes are probably not a good indication.

Just one point of correction - there is no such thing as Government money. It is taxpayers’ money.

Rubbish. That is a Thatcherite myth. It is public money or government money. We can't pay our taxes unless the currency issuing government spends it into existence first. It's a circular argument to suggest otherwise.

As former RBA Governor Ian Macfarlene said recently "the spending came first. A lot of people are surprised when they hear that but that has always been the case".

A more obvious situation is to look at JobKeeper. $200 billion appropriated when the overnight rate was zero (ie little to no significant interbank lending) and tax revenue had fallen through the floor.

As Federal Treasury said in 2002, Commonwealth debt is issued to manage interest rates, it does not fund the Commonwealth.

State taxes do fund the state government though, except they get access to cheap debt as through COVID where the RBA bought up huge amounts of state and territory debt (like the ECB does in the Eurozone, otherwise the disastrous monetary union would collapse) at 0.1%.

It's similar for private banks, who create money (credit) when they lend. Loans create deposits. They then use their reserves in exchange settlement accounts to settle obligations to customers when they come due.

As for training ground, you'd have to say Roffey has had a huge failure at this point.

Whenever I bring this up with a cats fan he always replies asking who paid for the MCG etc.

You can tell him it is paid for overwhelmingly by the MCC members.

It's going up too. MCC fees are absurd. Jumped by another $100 this year.

In positive news though I have just become a full member, hopefully the grand final access has not coincided with our window shutting!

21 years for me as a full member now.

My old man is a 50 year member. It used to be $50 for 50 year members, but that's gone up too.

It's a disgrace.

At least the 50 year member category is still around. Might be gone by the time we get there

And at a ground played often by all 10 Victorian teams.

Tell your Cats mate that.

Albo is a neolib, as is his Treasurer. They push this nonsense all the time. Neolibs on both sides of politics have spent years trashing our country. They can get in the bin.

As you were...

I think that’s bit unfair beelz. All of us have no idea really what progress is going on - which I’m sure is due to non- disclosure agreements. And just because you and I are not being kept in the loop, doesn’t mean she is not, as best she can, progressing this option - which as we know is under the control of other organisations.  If Caulfield turns out to be a bust then maybe your comment will have merit, but not yet.

Nup,sorry. Don't buy this. And why ?. She effectively came in on the very notion of NOT being 'one of the boyz'  .. of being the one to get it done ( it being the new home )

Where are we now..   Well lots of talk, lots of might be ,could be's . Throw in ...it's in development etc. Effectively...at this very moment what do we have... clinically... nothing.  Or as suggested   SFA

N.C. This isn't Moscow .. ( hmm.. maybe Melb ..city...is ) those in positions ARE accountable. We SHOULD be kept up to date. But the club continues to be a secretive boyz club.

Meanwhile other clubs get new digs, get mega$M upgrades.

I actually think Caulfield is a great opportunity and my gut suggests will eventuate. But wht the secret squirrel approach. Yes there are commercial confidences but i can't imagine anything that should preclude meaningful updates.

MFC ..sponsored by Crickets !!    almost ironically appropriate

Where you are correct Beelz is that we should, as members, be getting more updates - even if vague in nature. But that wasn’t your initial statement /argument was it. You said Roffey has “done sfa” - which I still say is a bit unfair.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
