I just spoke to a lady from the membership department and she has been told nothing of the move to Waverley. Thinks the demon shop will stay at the G and maybe they'll open another at Waverley, but isn't sure.

So it's not just the members kept in the dark.

Caulfield, well Glen Iris is actually the geocentre of Melbourne.

Waverley is and always has been the boonies where unfortunates freeze to death.

Will be interesting to see what effect in reality occurs.

I'm talking some what out of self interest when I talk about accessibility, living in the outer East near Lilydale it's ~40mins by car to Waverley Vs 1hr to Caufield and probably more like 1.5hrs on the train (until SRL becomes a reality). But I also see that band from Ringwood out and the Cranbourne/Pakenham area as being where the younger generations of Demons fans can afford to live.

The Demon ship might need some water access.

Forever, we might as well change our name to the Waverley Demons. We will be there forever.

Would still be a better outcome than the one we’ve been in for the past few decades.

I'm sure hundreds of options have been considered, but I'd be interested to know if we've had a crack at being included in the Fisherman's Bend development. Surely we're more chance of getting serious government money for opening a facility in a new precinct while some tacked on community stuff than developing anything in an established area. Added bonus - it's a city location, and could be somewhere to play VFL/AFLW games.

I hadn't paid much attention to the Caulfield plan until recently because it's like waiting for airport rail or a fast train to Sydney, but got interested when the Waverley story came out. The last update on the website is from September 2024, and it doesn't explain the benefits of Caulfield other than we want to build somewhere, and this is somewhere that might let us build. Now that Waverley is on the agenda, I think they need to justify why the cost of Caulfield outweighs a combination of Waverley/Casey. Obviously a custom facility would be better, but is it $70 million worth of better?

The people who have done proper work on this project know more than I do, but I hope we're not getting caught in a rush of executives and board members wanting to be the person who finally delivers the holy grail of an MFC home venue regardless of cost.

P.S - As a bonus feature, here's the bit of the FAQ where they ran out of content and had to fill space.

I live on the Bass Coast ... makes sfa difference to me

I only get to small handful of games and maybe a couple of training sessions.

Ironically Casey is the most accessible for moi. If only they let you in. I like Mr Fence am not fond of slitherins 😉. Tbh there ARE nope ropes in the middle of Caulfield !!

Upset about this blunder, Melbourne leaving Melbourne, no coming back once they pack the removal van to Waverley of all places.

The racetrack and the tunnel dream will soon blow over

I’ve definitely got the Fitzroys about this.

Melbourne is not leaving ...Melbourne...just the little ol' cbd. It's now usurping greater Melbourne... as only ONE club can 😉

Not sure history is on your side when it comes to our 'new' training ground

And where are they now? Brisbane! It was called artic park for good reason and the scene of the great robbery.

Can't help feeling we have been nudged along ... Tennis Aust are talking about wanting to expand ... pies likewise ... we have no pull it seems ... hopefully there is a pay off to this with caulfield getting up

Waverley is a better option than the utter backward stuff we have at the moment.

Shared facilities with 2 other sporting codes at AAMI, training on a public oval, or 1 hours drive to the outer fringes, where the ovals are great, but the facilities are still below par.

And our current arrangements have the admin in broom closets located in multiple locations in the MCG, far away from the football department.

So tick for Waverley, as it is superior to what we have at the moment.

But it cannot be a long term solution. 1 ground with time and lighting restrictions due to housing build arround it, right up to the edges.

The facility is the old grand-stand, it was never designed to house a football club, with gyms, pools and admin sectors. It is cobbled together, and that is why Hawthorn moved out. It is simply not fit for purpose for 2026. It might have been OK 10 years ago.

But Hawthorn have had the foresight to realise that and did something.

Caulfield better go ahead.

Going on past history with the Aamo rainy they should not only be focused on Caulfield but have other options or the go

So its official...

With Dees moving to Artic Park...

Hell is freezing over...

This is the way....

We get pushed out to waverley with the promise of caulfield

Richmond take short term ownership at goschs paddock while punt Road is developed.

Collingwood get longer term access to goschs as a 2nd oval.

Tennis Australia take on either goschs or Olympic Park for overflow during January.

Seem to be wins all around..... as long as caulfield gets the tick off and appropriate funding from head office and the government......

If we could first demolish Gosch's rendering it unusable to both Richmond and Collingwood I'd feel better about the move.

Moving the Demon Shop would be very unwise. Gameday is their busiest day by far. Yeah, folks can buy stuff online but many prefer to go to the shop to try stuff on or browse.

Agree - l did that last week.

On Wednesday to see the Dees train - but they didn’t !

Just ran the Google maps…Waverley is 18 minutes from Toorak. We are back in the heartland compared with the 50 minute trip I had to put the Range Rover through all preseason to watch training. Happy Days.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
