If it confirmed dump him. Seriously has not learned lessons. There are definite leadership issues at this club

Just confirmed then that the AFL is investigating after the MFC reported it to them.

If he can get through another pre-season then he'll be like a new recruit across our half forward line next season.

I'd really think that this is the case - a talent like Harley, once rekindled - is going to come back harder and more resolute than ever. He could very positively assist in the complete transformation of our forward line; in fact, I'd strongly suggest that will be the case. Good china is wrapped well; let's hope that Harley and his recuperation are also well wrapped by the start of the next season.

Maybe that’s where the senior leaders went at 3/4 quarter time yesterday?

So if he’s left the hub (as he’s been told his season is done), and gone out drinking, which would be perfectly acceptable for end of season, how is this a problem?

You buy memberships, attend games, donate money. We have been terrible for 60 years yet we have guys like this carrying on. If it true there should be no second chances. Culture is a big issue at this club

The season not over why is he being let out

Because the whole point of a hub environment is you don't leave the hub then come back in.

His season is over and has been for a few weeks.

Assuming it’s true, he clearly doesn’t have the professionalism required for AFL footy.

Both parties gave it a shot, we move on.

Even if he was re-signed for a year, I wouldn’t confidently have in our best 22 due to his injury issues.

He can not be this stupid surely Of all the players...

He has form p2j.

1 year contract extension mentioned on Fox.

If he’s breached the hub rules should not be offered another contract ... ffs how many chances this guy want???

Delisted?

Otherwise it is not a smart choice.

Seems like it may end up being a parting of ways. From what posters have said, the coaches wanted him to find the extra 10% effort and trust his body but Harley just couldn’t do it.

Not sure he will come back from here and it’s an easy out for the club

Ralphy just said on Fox Footy that Melbourne pretty much have a 1 year contract for Bennell

Until the facts come through, hes a [censored] spanner..

Have players not learnt anything after the Richmond situation?‍♂️

Didnt he promise the club no drinking in one of the To Hell and Back Eps?  Its just monumentally stupid. How many chances do you want?

If the story is true and he’s breached the COVID rules then his career is over.

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
