How do you lift them?

As a well paid professional footballer I would wear MFC apparel and runners, rather than khaki shorts (for the 'jungle gym', as he called it) and birks, which can easily slip when sweaty.

But that's just me!

Perhaps it is just us Mr. Shadow, I was thinking very similar thoughts.

Facilities at Maroochydore seem rather primeval, love the corrugated iron and rainforest look. Plently of Johnny Weissmuller types in the wings too! Are the boys able to fraternise with the locals up there? When does Jane make her appearance?

Don’t worrying about the facilities Tarax. They basically do the same thing but it’s more about the work the players put in rather than the new wiz bang equipment they train on.

Exactly what Balboa had in mind.

Like comparing Melbourne to Collingwood training...

Interesting seeing today's interview with Petracca. I could be reading too much into it, but he seems to have matured. Boyish enthusiasm replaced by steely resolve?

I know many have noted it but jeez he looks fit. Saw a one of the camp photos on my phone and didn't recognise his face at first.

If he plays a lot more mid field time he could be huge for us.

I thought the same Bing. What was also notable was his batting away any notion that he's demanded more time in the midfield. Contrary to popular rumour. He just wants to win games. And so say all of us.

I've always thought he looks like a curious combination of Beavis and Butthead. Either way I think the Great Cornholio is in for a ripper year up forward.

Are we expecting a Captaincy announcement after this? Surely they'll do the voting up there, if they haven't already.

From what I have been told Max is a lock, just a matter if they decide to keep Viney as Co Captain.

Looks to have matured which is good to see. Hopefully as a result his footy will be better and more consistent.

Strewth! Assuming the Jungle Gym is located somewhere behind the primary dune and the team accommodation is 50 metres from the beach. This year's Maroochydore Training Camp appears to be channeling a Cecil B. DeMille  Sword and Sandals epic. Of course Christian Petracca is hot favourite for the lead role, with Adam Tomlinson nominating for the support role.

I really hope your right,  'bingo' because he has wasted a couple of years in my book.

Not the knee injury,  but a wasted couple of boyish seasons where he's been allowing others to show the way forward,  just treading AFL waters,  so to speak.

It's high time he stood up as a real leader, in this team.

Not potting you but in my opinion tgis is completely wrong. Seems to be a common view, even from dees fans who presumably watched him a fair bit. Which I find strange.

He was terrific last year. As he noted he had surgery in the preseason and so never got fully fit. Which made it hard for him to stay in games for 120 minutes.

But he was super consistent accross the season and our best forward. His season was massively underrated. Was ok the previous year too.

We all got to mature sometime.

I'm 48 next month and my mother is hoping the penny will finally drop???

So it's not just me! I've called him Beavis and Butthead since game 1!

Petracca's name has definitely been popping up a lot in the pre-season training conversation, whatever happens in the season proper he's giving himself the best opportunity to show what he's capable of.

Beat me to it.  My favorite part of the interview as well.  I know they are just words in a sense, but from the reports about his application to preseason and the reflex in which it came out, you could tell there was some real conviction behind it.

Trac is often stated to have an infectious personality, so let's just hope his attitude and application spread like a corona virus in Wuhan throughout the group (figuratively speaking!).

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
