Have any of those with theirs ears close to the ground at Gosch’s heard why May left early in the last training sesh? Obviously hoping the big chap has an uninterrupted pre-season, so slightly perturbed by this being mentioned the other day.

Didn't you see the annoucement made last week? It was all over the papers.

“I have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this club. I intend to step back as a ‘senior’ member of the MFC and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Simon Goodwin. I now plan to balance my time between Melbourne and North America, continuing to honour my duty to the Melbourne Football Club. I look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as I continue to collaborate with Simon, Max, Glen, Gary, and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept my deepest thanks for your continued support.”

Apparently not training today according to the training thread, for the second consecutive session.

Panic stations?

disappointing but no panic stations... just the usual MFCSS resignation

Perhaps we should have traded him to the Hawks and kept Frost!

My gut tells me not to expect much from May. Looks like the classic " we bought a crock"

I'm nervous, too, od...but, it has to work out

Just need Lever to do a Knee now.

*Runs for cover.

Heard he has a small back issue and the club is being conservative as to not exacerbate it and make it a long term injury. Might just be a slightly slower build up for him heading into the season proper. No alarm bells yet.

Nathan Jones is the one they’ve been very tight lipped about. I assume it’s tied to his neck and back issues of the past two seasons so slow build up for him too due to his age.

A defense led by Oscar McDonald and Harry Petty looks tantalising on paper.

Not great, but at least by all accounts he got himself into much better shape before this (hopefully) minor flare up, so we should still be a long way ahead of last season in this regard.

My gut says he's had full seasons every year until last year. maybe just hold our nerve a little.

salivating if you load up at TAB on the opposition key forwards.

My gut gets turned upside down when I read this thread and doesnt know what it thinks.

More like 3/4 than full seasons and the Suns weren’t known for preparing their players well.

Im concerned by how much lighter they’ve got him and how much training he was doing pre Christmas.

After last year I would’ve limited him to only about 3/4’s of the work load in preseason. Instead it sounds like we’ve pushed him too hard before Christmas and now have to back right off.

Injuries to Jones at this point don't concern me anywhere near as much in 2020. The guy is very  close to his last season and based on last year he will struggle to be a regular. We will need to get on without him at best from 2021 it just may come a little earlier due to injury. Not having him in round 1 will make little difference to the result in WA.

A fair bit of supposition there ds.

May worries me binman, i get a feeling that we have bought a pup.

He cost a lot and so far not a lot of return.

Are we trying to make him into a different player that does not have the body for it?

He should be one of the anchors of our backline and we need him to be if we are to improve this season.

Agree we have much  riding on him. Super critical player.

Interesting question as to whether we are asking him to play in a way he is not physically suited to. I sure hope he is up to it.

He didn't come to us fit, got injured... I haven't heard any reports to suggest that the work they are putting into him is to change his role, it sounds like they just want him fit to play out the season!

... don't think that does anything to ease the fears you have though Old Dee. Still could be a pup at the end of the day if it fails, but I'm happy to give the new conditioning team a bit of leeway.

everyone relax!  it is January and he just missed a session

oh the veil of negativity is still here!  ?

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
