Core players / top 4 in the best 22? (merged thread)

The aim was to hear others' opinions on whether we really have a decent list. If we can't find players on our list who'd get a game in the top teams, what hope do we have?

As for already answering my own question, no, I don't think just Max and Clarrie would make the other teams.

Now, I'm trying to put this politely...  Maybe it's not so much a case of answering my own question as someone else not understanding its intent.

Interesting topic,

IMO you can pick more than 4 to fit into the top 4 teams as there would  not be a permanent 15 or so players in each of the top 4 sides.

However I can pick one to fit into the Ricmond team, and  replace the retiring A Rance    and that is OMAC. We can ask for a future first.

Like all teams the rating of individuals within our squad entirely depends on how successful we are as a team. CD had us as the collective #1 rated squad heading into 2019. At the end of the day, that is why these rating systems are flawed, the measures of data don't extend beyond what happens during that 120 minutes on game day. I think when in form we have at least 12-15 players that would walk into the best 22 of the teams you've mentioned. That's the key, form.

I'm all for off-season musings, but this is a bit of an outdated and simplistic way of analyzing lists I reckon.

Even very good sides typically only have a handful of superstars and maybe another half dozen clearly above-average players. The bottom 6-10 players in good teams aren't world beaters, but play a role that utilizes their strengths and doesn't expose their weaknesses.

In that sense, most of Melbourne's best 22 would at least be in the frame of Richmond's best 22.

Oliver is probably a better player than, say, Cotchin, but would replacing Cotchin with Oliver improve Richmond? Doubt it.

Our list is good enough on paper to go deep in finals. Pretty much anyone that knows footy accepts this. Getting it to click is the hard part.

On topic:

Gawn

Oliver

May (GC version)

Tmac (2018 version)

Angus Brayshaw finished third in 2018 Brownlow. Back to his best, he’s elite.

The prospect of having to hear for the rest of his life that he finished 3rd in the Brownlow one year, should be a sufficient motivating force to get back to his best and surpass that crowning achievement. ?

Not as much love for Fritta in this thread as I would have expected.  Come the end of 2020, that will change!

Melksham would be in the starting 18 of any of those teams.

As would plenty of our orher guys.

And yet some people around here wouldn’t even have him in our best 22.

Would walk into anyone’s best 22 with his crisp kicking and goal kicking nous.

Players that would feature in other best 22’s.

Gawn - obviously.

Melksham - as mentioned above.

May - one of the better full backs in the league.

T Mac - 50 odd goals despite missing the first 5 games of the year gets you a gig.

Oliver - one of the best young mids in the game. Does things others can’t.

Maybe:

Brayshaw - 25 odd Brownlow votes gets you a gig but I’m hoping he’s not going to live off that  achievement for the rest of his career. Very good midfielder who once had a 37 possession 3 goal game. Poor 2019.

Salem - has a good shoe but tends to fade late in seasons.

Lever - A former All Aust 40 squad member who’s an excellent interceptor of the pill. Hasn’t shown anything near elite in his time with us.

Fritsch - This season will prove whether he’s the real deal as a full time fwd presumably. Needs to kick 40 to be considered a gig with the big boys. Apparently Richmond and Collingwood have kept an eye on him if your believe rumours.

Petracca - Has elite traits but just goes missing after playing a blinding quarter. Will 2019 be his year?

Gawn, Oliver, May, Harmes

We also need at least 4 of these guy's to move up with our top tiers Melksham, Fritta, Tracc, Gus & Jack, Langdon, TMac

Plus at least two of our youngsters to force their way into the top 22 and everyone else to play to their maximum capacity, then who knows what they could achieve.

Most our our best 22 would, when injury-free and in form, fully deserve a place in a top-4 team's best 22 unless they were jammed behind a better player in their specific position.

Most our our best 22 would, when injured and/or out of form, fully deserve a place in a bottom-4 team's best 22.

Base it on common sense.

Made the comment  to show how absurd it is to say he will be one of our top 4 players by the end of the season.

Good thinking...reply to what you perceive as an absurd comment with one even more absurd comment.

Its not really absurd to suggest a player who hasn't even played a senior game, might be delisted at the end of his second season. It does happen. It certainly happens more often than a second year player shooting to top 4 status after not getting a senior game in his first year.

Exactly King.

And while that is true, I wasnt even saying he would be delisted.    Was just saying theres more chance of it happening than him being one of our best 4 players.

Clearly too much for Rjay and Baghdad to wrap their heads around.

Everybody can wrap their heads around what was in fact, in my opinion, a stupid post

This whole thread is asking for opinion, I think Jordon will develop into a very very good player, top 4 this year, maybe not, delisted absolutely not

We have a very talented list, whether they would get a game in another team, I really don't care, as it is just an exercise in opinion

I just want the talent to be on display consistently this year
