15min works, I had a feeling that the promotion of halving the break was about getting it closer to 15.

But unless the games really exciting I reckon fans will start to stream out earlier to get to the loo and/or the bar.

Oh well, be prepared for outraged caterers and fans that scramble for the toilets, bars and kiosks at half time next season. If you are in your seat be prepared for interrupting annoyances as other fans try to get back into their seats at start of third quarter.

Novel idea... and hear me out on this - LEAVE THE [censored] GAME ALONE! Its worked for 150 plus years with out you Gilfish. It will work long after your bones are dust.

I am sure that Gil doesn't even know that there are rows of seats from which the peasants watch the game, or have to queue for toilets -"what, no en suite"?

A sensible organization would evaluate the decision after a year, allowing for dull games and see if it had the desired effect.  But this is the AFL.    If the decision was based on player's interesty rather than loot I'd support it and hope the AFL would heavily discount the rent they charge vendors at the grounds and builtdmore toilets.

Oh man! What a full-on assault of irony and wishful thinking. I know you are fully aware of this, but please, I can't stand that much in a single post.

Unless the players and coaches ask for it, a 20 minute break is completely unnecessary. As the players seem to want a shorter break, 15 minutes (or 10) is fine by me. Unlike most people I come to the football to watch the game, so anything else (half time entertainment, food & drink, etc) is completely irrelevant.

As an aside, I'm not sure why people are still whining about the cost of food at the football. Nobody makes you buy it - spend five minutes packing your own and the problem is solved.

Gil - no doubt as a host for the AFL for many hordes of patrons at possibly every game he attends - must have found the drinks prices in the bar were excessive and thus, has reduced the drinking time, not exercising care for the players and general public at all.

Personally think 15 minutes is right, and would be open to 10. Less time having to listen to so-called 'analysts' talking [censored] during the coverage. And at the ground, beers/feeds/toilet breaks happen at quarter time in 5 minutes so why the uproar about half-time?

Footy wise, half-time should purely be a physical break for the players and a chance to regroup re: tactics. No way should it be so long that players need an extended warm up for a second time.

Spot on, poita.   It's also important to remember that any food fills up valuable beer space in your stomach.

told you that the 10 min break was just an afl ambit bid for 15 min

i personally don't mind 15 min break

This is the AFL we are dealing with dc.

2021 it will be 10 mins. Total Media driven, they pay the dollars and get their way in the end.

I see more advertising opportunities as a result.  If the players get too tired as a result of the shorter 1/2 time break, they can then introduce 15 second ads at every ball-up to give the players a chance to rest.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
