What you think we'll do and if you don't like that, add what you would do.

Jackson, D.Stephens, Pickett

The only thing I’m sure of is that if we use pick 28, it will be on some random that Fox Footy don’t even have a profile picture for and Shifter Sheehan will pretend he knows him.

3 - Jackson

10 - Pickett

28 - Flynn Perez

I think we add either a 4th pick, a rookie pick or another train on player. A pacy small or a key defender depending on how the draft goes. State leagues or even a Sam Murray. I just don't see the need to hold list spots for  both Bennell and Mitch Brown.

I just can't see the club going for Jackson. I predict they'll bid for Tom Green, GWS will match and then we will go for Young.

10 - Pickett

28 - A medium-sized mid, with speed, like Hugh Ralphsmith

If they do the above, I will be happy. I don't believe Jason Taylor would've been honest and upfront with the Road to the Draft guys and really doubt our interest in Jackson..

3. Jackson

10. Pickett

28. Jeremy Sharp

Jackson

Weightman

Pickett

3 Jackson (I don’t want but gotta back them in)

live trade because we want Pickett and can get him slightly later whilst improving our next pick.

Weightman

Green (not matched by GWS)

D Stephens

Pickett (slides to 28)

The conventional wisdom now seems overwhelming that we'll be taking Jackson at three.

After that, unless Brodie Kemp is magically still available at ten, I think there will be a serious live-trade on the night, so I'm going to throw my dice twice:

Scenario One -

Pick 10 Brodie Kemp, pick 28 Elijah Taylor. Kemp we are all familiar with by this stage. Taylor is just what a pick 28 should be - the possibility of a gun if we can give a little trim and polish.

Scenario Two -

Live trade 10 and 28 for Port's 12 and 18 because Port want local midfield guns Dylan Stephens and Harry Shoenberg (desperately need to start succession planning for Gray 31 Rockliff 29 Boak 31 Ebert 29 Hartlett 29 and Motlop 28), need to jump Hawthorn to get Stephens while Shoenberg will still be available at 28, and the deal will still leave them with pick 16 to play with in the later end of the first round.

Pick 12 Cody Weightman, pick 18 Trent Bianco. Obviously Kysiah Pickett becomes very likely at 18, too, but might be too similar to Weightman to draft both at once. Bianco is all those 'reliable skills, composure, leadership'  words that we definitely need more of.  A short draft but we actually have a lot of taller mids and flanks running around already so I'm ok with it.

I think Jackson at three. Trade 10 for either two picks in the teens or one and a first round next year. They'll go one of the small forward types with the teen pick. Pickett most likely if he's  still there.

What i'd like to see in a perfect world is:

  • Bid on Green, forcing GWS to take him early and booting them out of two drafts.
  • Grab Young with our (now) pick 4
  • Kemp at 11(formerly 10)
  • Small forward with our second round pick.

I’ve heard we rate both Pickett and Weightman but if both available would take Pickett.

Well if Stephens is available to us and we don't pick him I will be disappointed. Look at all the forward line players on our list. Those who could expect to be in the team are devoid of pace. I just think Stephens us better than Pickett

so, Jackson or Young , followed by Stephens

Pick 3 Jackson

Pick 10 Young

Pick 28 Taylor

3 Jackson

14 Kemp

17 Pickett

Jackson, Robertson, Sharp

3: Best available at that pick

10: Best available at that pick

28: Best available at that pick

Drafting based on needs is fraught with danger. Lets not complicate things Dees, just get the best players you can regardless of position. We need some young guns or our age profile runs the risk of becoming too lopsided. We have done well so far this off season, lets keep it that way.

Yeah, we get that. The object of this game though, is to pick who you'll think they'll take. Plenty of other threads for you expel your philosophy to the masses.

I forgot about Gould. You could be onto something, however, I do still think they trade 10 for 14 and 17.

I can now see the argument for naming my future children "Best Available".  Guaranteed AFL career.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
