Would need to be a big fish plus some picks wouldn't it? As far as I can tell, we only have 2 draft picks now right? And we have to use at least 3. Bit lost among all the updated 'indicative orders' now though tbh...

I hope it is a real big fish. Cameron, Whitfield, Finlayson....

Otherwise, if you know how to hold em, the shuffling and dealing goes on until the draft.

The lack of riddles this year has really been disappointing.
What happened to everyone on Demonland with inside knowledge and mates?

Think you can always just upgrade rookies or use picks at the end of the draft. Salary cap is probably the bigger concern, to land someone big we'd have to trade someone out. 2 deals from nowhere in the last 24 hours of trade period - seems unlikely

Not sure someone who got  literally 1 possession in the grand final should be someone we should be giving up a top 10 pick for??

Yeah, we don't have to use a pick to upgrade a rookie anymore right? So technically we could draft 2 players, then just upgrade a rookie, and that counts as our 3?

Based on our recent trade strategy perhaps they are looking at making sure we bring in two good young players this year.

My only thought is if it is a big fish two top ten pick would have to bring back a Jeremy Cameron type but for salary we'd have to be sending a decent earner back out to make this work.

To judge a player's worth on one game in isolation is simplistic thinking IMO.  No doubt his GF was a stinker all the same.

It's an ugly stat that aligns with the sports trivia question that's bound to be asked in the future...

Q/ Who kicked 3 goals in the 2019 AFL Grand Final?

A/ GWS

All I can say is, we better not be planning a big name trade, we better have it sorted ALREADY. If we don't use picks 3 and/or 8, or pick 8 in some combo to secure a needed gun, that has to be the stupidest trade of all time.  One first rounder for a first, second and third rounder. FFS.

We're in the best position possible going into last day of trade period.

Two extremely valuable picks are on the table if the right offer pops up.

We'll be sitting back, cross-legged with cigar in mouth knowing that if nothing comes up, we go to the draft with two top 10 picks a year after making a prelim.

Added to that is the fact that we've addressed a problem area with the additions of Langdon and to a lesser extent Tomlinson. No longer will we have to play inside midfielders on a wing.

And this is all without mentioning the fact that we have a pre-season with Burgess coming up. One of the most highly respected fitness coaches around.

I'm putting a cheeky $20 on us for top 4 next year.

Dees.

I think this is a more than optimistic view of our list TBH.  I can make an argument for improvement - Langdon, pre-seasons, healthy list, but I can also make an argument that we will have a similar (8th - 12th) year next year.

Agreed, I was saying it in jest a little.

However, if we were to trade pick 3 for Finlayson, I’d be wanting some pretty damn valuable assets back our way.

Finlayson has a good finals series but to get 1 possession in a grand final is simply pathetic.

Have we been linked to Wines or Daniher yet?

Daniher does remind me of Basil Fawlty.

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
