Papley is a young gun who's only going to get better, I reckon considering there's apparently not much difference between pick 3 and 20 we should be giving Sydney pick 3 for Papley, he's nominated Carlton but says just wants to get back to Melbourne and doesn't really care where he plays!

If we split pick 3 I’d use one of the new picks on Papley and retain the other for the draft, I wouldn’t use pick 3 on him. But it doesn’t matter because he’s nominated Carlton so that’s where he’ll end up.

3 is too much but if we split pick 3 I wouldn't think trading one of those out for Papley would be crazy. Depends what sort of coin he wants but he's exactly what our forward line lacks.

Concur. He is a OK player. No where near a pick 3 or even a split pick. 2019 wasn't to bad but really what has he done? Let the Blues have him. Jetta will eat him for Breaky when we play them.

pick 3 is too high. Papley is good but he's not that good. Pick 7 and higher seems about right.

He’s kicked 120 goals in 4 seasons after being taken as a rookie and will only get better.

We have a serious lack of small forwards and one of the worst forward lines in the game. I think Papley would address our deficiencies very well.

A very good chance with that 22 that Papley will get benched a fair bit = not worth a top 10 pick then.

And he’ll be named emergency for every game, won’t quite crack the best 22 all season.

A good player. Not worth near a top 10 pick though

Yes agree, but I reckon Andrew Gaff would come home in the right circumstances, and that would be playing for the team he supported as a kid, he has a clause in his contract that if there are personal reasons for coming home WC will find a way, what about pick number 3 for Gaff?

nup 3 for Gaff and 14  they may take it because 3 and next year's 1st rounder will get them Kelly

Would I include pick 3 as part of a deal for Papley - sure.

Would I pay Papley some crazy amount like 900k and therefore limit any future salary cap flexibility we have left with this core of players - nope.

Be ironic if we did a deal for him! He's from Bunyip and played for Casey if I remember correctly! Could of had when no one else wanted him!

Interesting reading what Scott Lucas, his manager, said this morning around the fact that while Carlton is his preference, he is keeping his options open.

With Elliott out of the picture, there is no reason why we can't also get involved if we see the opportunity to do so.

Beat me to it. It certainly pricked my ears to the family t that they'd still look at other options of need be.

as per everyone else, not for pick 3 - but if we split the picks then absolutely

BUT surely we cannot go near the $$s he's commanding to move back to melbourne - we're already bringing in tomlinson at $4-500k a year over the next four, presumably we're not paying langdon in twisties...if we had the cap room then yes, but it's not likely

Trade pick 3 for GWS 12 and 18, then use pick 12 for Papley, 18 in the draft.

(Should we be able to convince him to come to us)

Good thinking but the club would want to do a lot better than 12 & 18 if they trade down. Would want something additional from GWS for this to be done.
Papley would be a great addition to the dees if we can pull it off.

Points wise, 12 and 18 are worth slightly more than pick 3 I believe.

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
